Hello Forum Members,

I started getting into Graphics with Corel Draw 3 back in 1995. I was learning Website Development back when "Graphic Interface Format"... GIF images were the only images used before JPGs.
Then someone came up with Animated GIFs and I needed an App that could make the ANI-GIFs and I bumped into JASC's (Just Another Software Company) Paint Shop software. I started using it, and I graduated up to JASC Paint Shop Pro 7 with it's built in "Animation Shop", and because I learned JASC PSP 7.0/Animation Shop enough to get done what I've needed to get done... that's where I've been since about 2000. Until My Brother invented and patented a real coconut shaped and coconut textured Coconut Cup.
I needed an App that could do tasks that I couldn't do on JASC PSP 7.0, and I can't afford Adobe Photoshop. I knew about Gimp many years ago but that's because I was learning running Dual OSs and I had installed Ubuntu, but I've only used Graphic App when I "needed" to, and JASC PSP 7.0 was able to do what I needed so I never bothered learning Gimp. But, JASC PSP 7.0 is now 20 years old. So it was time to learn something new and Free was the right price!, LOL

Welcome StageMan! I remember JASC PSP, think I got in on a bundle CD with some other software and Tomb Raider demo back in the day.
Never used it much though, because CorelDraw has been my workhorse over 20 years.

Welcome StageMan. Yeah I've used JASC PSP way back in the day as well. Also PS 7, (bought it at a yard sale). I learned Gimp when I switched to Linux and never really needed to use any other Image editor after that.

Welcome, Stageman!

I currently have PSP 21. I needed to see how much the engine improved, because the last version I used (10) lagged so bad going through scripts and albums it was unusable. The lag is gone, but I only use it when GIMP can't run PSPI programs that I need for a required effect. Then I discovered Affinity Photo, which is so light and quick to use. However, only on a Windows machine. GIMP is the main workhorse of all my photo editing, graphics, and doodling with most PSPI programs in tow. From time to time I need to bounce into ImageMagick or XNView, because they work well with batch projects, and are easy to use. As often as I hear people whine about how hard GIMP is to use, I remind them that every program has a learning curve, and as Rich stated, an unlearning curve. If you have the will, there is always a way. Yes, FREE is a good price! I'm still looking for the original attachment files JASC offered in their version 5, which allowed you to put glasses, clown wigs, etc on images of people. It was very retro and cute. My granddaughters would love using them.
