I've posted on a few forums looking for a brave soul who'd like to volunteer their gimp talent.

I've been messing around on gimp for a very short while now and hope to learn much more with the help of the tutorials on here, but the truth is, I have the ideas, but I just don't have an artistic eye!

Would anybody out there be willing to give up a little time and use their gimp talent to help me with a short project? I'm hoping to get some short animated titles for a video I'm doing. I'm not looking for a pro, just looking for someone who enjoys working in gimp and would like to put their talent to good use.

If you'd like to know more then please drop me a line on here, or at [email protected]

Well Deb first of all welcome to the GimpChat forum. This might surprise you to know that I dont have an artistic bone in my body but I give it a whirl. You might be surprised by what you can do...mostly I follow tutorials for other graphics programs using GIMP and utilising the skills I have learned in this forum and from public domain video tutorials... But I am sure someone here will be able to help you with your project.

Welcome to Gimp Chat. I saw your post on Gimper as well (I moderate there also).

Are you asking for a short video intro to a video.Something in 3D?
Or just simple 2D text flying in or scrolling down?
Blender is better for 3D stuff and is also opensource. It does have a sharp learning curve but there are tons of tutorial videos out there on YouTube.
If you want nice crisp text try Inkscape (also opensource), as it is vector.
You could also do something in Flash. There are opensource programs for that also.
What exactly do you want?

And guess what i just got working in Wine for Fedora. :)
I couldn't get SWiSH Max 4 to work (which sucks), but the old version 2.0 works ok.Just no action script.
Im a happy! :)

So if you need something in Flash i can help now.

Hi Rod, I've been all over trying to get some help with this, so thanks for getting back to me.

Not being artistic, the best thing I can think of doing is trying to describe what I want - so bear with me!

Opening titles.
1. Text reads: Is your Talent Shackled?
How the words appear and the font used, would be entirely up to you, but the greater the impact, the better.
2. Chains wrap around all of the text (kicking up dust if possible)

End titles.
1. Return to Chains wrapped around: Is your Talent Shackled
2. Text begins to rumble, shake, quake, dust rises
3. Chains burst, fly, are flung off the text.
4. A shack, silhouette or image, drops, lands and crushes the 'led' of the word Shackled.
5. Dust rises, then settles or disappears
6. The text: 'Talent Shack' remains, with the image of the shack where it fell, next to it.

God, how I wish i could draw!
I hope that's not too difficult to understand. That's the sort of the general gist I have, but I'm not sure what's possible and how difficult it would be to do?
My aim is to put the whole thing, along with footage and sound FX, together in iMovie.

I'd be grateful for any thoughts.

Debs

What you are asking for is going to take quite a bit of time, and work to get something with enough quality for a website intro.Even in Flash. :)
Perhaps you would be interested in using Synfig Studio which is a vector animation software.
Also opensource.

Thanks for the link - I'll take a look at it and see if I can get anything up and running. Learning curve heaven! Thanks once again.

For making chain links have a look at Draconian's, How to Make Chrome Metal Chain Links - Metal Wurx X.
