Well, I have already written some messages, but never introduced myself.

Glad to be part of this great group!
I'm from Italy and I'm neither a professional graphic artist, nor a professional photographer (actually, I'm in classical music as a composer, pianist and music analysis teacher and I'm also in folklore studies, these things are my job).

However, I am the kind of person that really feels that a too narrow specialization in just a few sectors is not good at all: so I have a great passion for any art, for photography, especially nature-related subjects (birds, insects, plants, landscapes), for digital computer art, for graphics, for computer programs and how they work, for natural sciences (botany, ornithology), for science in general, for traditions, poetry, and – well – too many other things (too many, especially because a day has just 24 hours)…

Just a faker/player myself Forest and welcome GIMPChat. My background's far from anything that comes close to art (though I do play the Clarinet with my local community band; lol). Just have fun and you'll fit in nicely here. We have folks with all kinds of backgrounds but we all have a few things in common; it's learning how to work with GIMP and having fun doing so.

Hi Forest, its good to have you here. My boy is a classical trained violinist but he has stopped playing a few months ago as he isnt interested in making a living out of music...He was playing in a youth strings orchestra but now that he is almost 18, there is nothing else here for him in that field in a small country town..He is actually my grandson....he and I played classical mandolin for a couple of years as a diversion but thats gone by the way as well..I guess all of us have interests that wax and wane from time to time. And further bonus is that it appears you might be a Mac user as well... Welcome aboard!!!

Pauline, I've been glad to hear about the musical interests within your family.
Yes, I'm a affectionate Mac user since 1980. It's probably still the most used platform among musicians here. The first Mac I used had MacOS 6.0 on it and couldn't be booted until you inserted the floppy disk containing the operating System, and we were all amazed… with its speed (at least, we used to think so in those days). I never used Linux and used WIndows really very, very rarely.
