:welcome to Gimp Chat!

I understand your distress and confusion. There are so many things to learn about in GIMP. We all started where you are starting so we know what it's like to be a gimp "n00b".

Ask lots of questions. Also, check out the basic tutorials. They have a lot of very good information in them.

I promise that the more you learn about Gimp the more you'll use it and depend on it. There are squillions of tutorials in youtube. Some of the best are Malgalin, tutor4u, VscorpionC, and especially Tom Bland. There are a lot of other good ones but the ones I listed are particularly good for beginners, which everybody here was once, incidentally. Everybody here is willing to help in any way they can.

We also have a wide ranges here too, from young folks to cranky old geezers like me so don't feel like you don't fit in. The only reason not to fit in here is if a person tries not to.

Welcome.
I am confident that with a little help and practice, you will soon be a lot less confused.
I found coming to grips with Gimp's keyboard shortcuts, helped me greatly.
I have attached 2 shortcut PDF files that I found by searching the net.

I hope you can find some use for them.
Cheers
