Hi,
Old man trying to be creative and learn GIMP. I have fun with it but so far have just followed some step by step instructions. Getting pretty good at putting my face in photos (and at least making myself laugh) but would like to develop more original stuff and my inner creative self. Hope to learn from you soon.

I found this forum through a Google search; I am trying to install Python but am having problems. I'm sure I'm not the 1st so I'll go cruising through the topics to see what I can find.

Welcome to Gimp Chat. Gimp-2.8 comes with python built in so you no longer need to install it for python modules to work inside Gimp.
Just place whatever .py filters you want inside your plugins folder and they should work.
If you are using Gimp-2.6 you really should upgrade to Gimp-2.8.6.

Welcome to GC. What Rod said about upgrading to 2.8 depends on a lot of different issues and there are plenty of experienced Gimp users including myself who still prefer 2.6. I would try a portable version of the latest 2.8 first, before committing.

Welcome to GC! I personally liked parts of 2.6 more than 2.8 but the download I got got 2.6 didn't install right or something so...been too lazy to get 2.6 again. xD
