Looks like the gimprc bug has been patched (maybe not released yet, but at at leasted it has a fix). Pretty soon PSPI and User Filter will be happy with each other once again. :)

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=674096 (read all the way down to the next to last {well at time of this post anyway} entry)

Also, TIF bug's been patched too as many here already know. Not sure about the jpeg preview size or brush lag with color management enabled bugs have been addressed though, but I say keep the wheels well oiled. Thanks Michael. :)

Hopefully, with a maintenance release (or two), annoying issues like these will be fixed. :bigthup

Fedora 17 will be released next Tuesday and will include GIMP 2.8. I still use F14 but I'll need to upgrade to F17 to be able to move to GIMP 2.8 (or do some compiling). My problem is that my hardware really needs updating. I'm short on RAM and my video card is outdated AGP technology. I'm going to try my hardware but I'm probably gonna find that I need to shell out a couple of hundred $$$ for some upgrades. :hoh

Not necessarily as ram costs and video card costs have come way down. You can get a lot of ram (8-10 gbs) for like $20-30 at most. You can find some decent video cards for under $100 (at least any that are needed to run gimp and most likely fedora).

My barebones (got as a Christmas gift from my brother) cost my Bro $320 as I recall Tux. I added 500G HD and an additional 4Gs of RAM along with a Lightscribe CDR (why the heck I bought this is anyone's guess since I never used the feature; lol). Recently, I did update my Video card too ($89 I believe for a Geforce 520). I probably have around $400 of my own cost in this PC (not including OS which I paid $99 as I recall for the initial pre-release of Win7 Pro (could of Win7 Home Premium for $45, but I wanted Pro) and of course Photoshop and several other programs). If I add the cost of the OS (but not other programs), my system cost a little over $800 and that doesn't even include the monitor which I paid $320 (or was it $220) I believe for a Dell 2209wa e-IPS display which I believe I got 3 years ago too (if you are going to be serious about photo-retouching then you need to use an IPS display) which replaced my venerable but aged 8 year old CRT. So, you will be hard pressed to get a good system for less then $1000 but there are all kinds of sales at NewEgg and TigerDirect for pretty powerful systems at half the cost I paid for mine, but I like custom build systems, but I do have to admit that one of my initial 2Gs of RAM and Power Supply did go bad (replaced the RAM and Power Supply while still having XP on it and I paid over $150 for the XP Pro at that time which I only used for a few months before upgrading to Win7). I spent a lot of money maintaining my computer; that's life. But that cost was around 3.5 years ago now so if you amortize the cost it's not that bad. System isn't grease Lightening (GA-M61P-S3 MB w/ AMD2 processor), but it still does what I need it to so I hope I can milk it for another 5 years (last computer lasted 7 years). Having an AGP MB sounds like your system is at least 6 if not older years old Tux so maybe soon you will have to splurge. :)

I did re compile this plugin (plugins) to see if it made a difference with the newest GTK libs. It did not.
Other than place the correct name in Filters>Generic>UserFilter (instead of Filter Factory Converter) it ran the GUF directories the same.(Not remembering to save the GUF folder location)
Although it did remember my last filter used when i re-opened it.. :)

What was the temp fix for the gimprc file Lyle?

The fix is to not use PSPI Rod. Take PSPI out, and set the path for the guf files and all is well. Indeed, if you don't set the path to the guf files, you can now do so in User Filter itself and all is well. That's the bug. PSPI vs. User Filter. If you have PSPI before user filter, the path to the user filter will magically get replaced with a blank line and PSPI, of course, will work. Vice versa for User Filter. Michael said he fixed this issue, but I guess I have to wait for an official release, but maybe it already got released to git (did I say that right) so you can build GIMP from the new files and see if that fixes this issue for 32-bit GIMP. :)

Well that isn't going to happen.I use PSPI more than UF so... :)
Hopefully now that Partha fixed the JPEG issue (Parthas last compile) he will re compile the master so this is fixed also.
Still though i have no problem locating the folder of filters each time i use UserFilter. No big deal.

Thanks for the reply Lyle.

Again, Michael said it's fixed so if you can compile the new files for GIMP, I would like to know if it indeed is. Time will tell anyway Rod and I can't wail til 2.8.1 gets released, but I know that GIMP won't be all right (or right enough) until 2.8.3 (always the .3 version that appears to be the major bug fix version). :)

or 6 ;)

I think Partha just compiled a prototype portable 64 bit version and i am wondering if he also compiled the 32 bit.Because i believe he builds the master from git. :)
