Hi all,

I have uploaded new builds in the 2.8 series: 2.8.4. This is a maintenance release with no new features. Matter of fact, my previous builds had most of the bug fixes already applied. However, for the sake of completeness, I am providing the 2.8.4 builds. To install, download the appropriate installer for your operating system and follow the prompt.

To harmonize the Mac and Windows builds, all plugins are already included in the main and the portable builds.

In particular, G'MIC 1.5.4.0 is included and so is an experimental UFRaw for Windows 64-bit and Mac. A word of caution for Windows: a bug prevents you from moving the window after UFRaw is launched. Try not to move it, it will crash the plugin. :)

Read all about it at www.partha.com

Please let me know if you have issues of questions.

Thanks,
Partha

Is it like an upgrade rather than a replacement, in other words, can we just download and it will overwrite what we already have?

*ps, still haven't found any crashes or boo boo's in 2.9 mcgimp

2-ton,

Just drag Gimp-2.8.app to trash and unzip 2.8.4 version and you are good to go!

Thanks the feedback on 2.9 as well! :) Pauline has found a couple and people are already working on it.

so this is not mcgimp? I have mcgimp in my dock and my applications folder, and it is the one I always use, but I also have a gimp-2.8 in a folder on my desktop.

Cool! :clap :clap :clap
2 questions :
You are planning a portable version ?
If not ...Samj stop to provide builds but i suppose the structure (i mean maringuin and what else made that portable , and allow to host locally gmic definition files so it could be used as portable) may be adapted to this your last build ... Correct ?

And a suggestion ... did you see the last Onkel Hatti build ?
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-pa ... kel_Hatti/

now that new selection tool from Rggjan seems cool but is not that much my point.
, my point is instead the changes to the GUI f the bundled plugin:

First that make usable all that group of good plugin with a preview too microscopic to be usable (you will remember are quite a lot gimpressionist, lighting effects, map to object, fractal trace ...) and has a nice effect also on the others

HERE there is also a zip with the patches
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-pa ... P/download

they should work also with 2.8.4 there were no changes for the plugin from 2.8.3 AFAIK

Finally installed this and it's working just fine. Of course, I don't have any of the nice scripts and brushes I had downloaded because I forgot that I should make a folder for all that. In fact, I'm not sure how to do that. Could someone tell me how to make a folder just to stash new stuff, and that I can then point to in any new versions I download?

2-ton,

In your home folder, you will see your personal Gimp folder under Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.8 for 2.8 and 2.9 for the 2.9 series. In the 2.8 you will see sub folders for brushes, plug-ins, scripts. Just drop all your stuff in there.

Thanks,
Partha

windows version: I found a little bug (issue?) on the new 2.8.4 release: when requesting Help / Plug-in browser or Procedure browser, after some searches (4 or 5) the function crashes (it's no more responsive); not a big issue because you can terminate the browser and reopen it, without closing/reopening gimp

Thanks for the report.

Do you require/use the help browser? I personally don't use it and so have not paid much attention to it.
