using the new laptop as well...old one died...so all new to me...I'll stick to what I said last tho...the thing that bothers me with this is the lack of ordered lists with fonts and graphic tubes etc...but I'm sure that will come good soon enough...I still think that GIMP is the best option for graphics, given that I have been also trying to do a PS course and in my opinion its far too complicated for a simple mind like mine...GIMP ROCKS!!!

Woo hoo! Pauline that's great! :)

I am glad we didn't have to do anything special for Mountain Lion. I will get back to the issue of alphabetical order to see what the solution could be. Stay tuned. :)

Thanks partha....I'll anticipate a fix some time soon but oh well...its more of an inconvenience than anything else...McGimp works for all other intents and purposes from what I can gather...my aim now is to see if I can get the animations stuff working..I havent tried yet so wish me luck...and of course I'll keep you informed...and for those who prefer to use Lisas versions of GIMP for Mac, she has released a Mountain Lion version...but no need to bother when you have this fabulous build from partha.

Thanks for trying it out, Pauline. I also hope the lists can soon be alphabetical or some kind of order! I have not upgraded from Snow Leopard yet, but may get around to it one of these days. I'm just not wanting to lose my old iphoto, I wish Mountain Lion had backward capabilities for some of my applications.

There is current a lot of work going on in the 2.9 branch and so 2.8 is relatively stable. Thus I should be able to spend some time on tracking down this sorting issue.

You mentioned that McGimp works fine on Mountain Lion and so no need for me do any specific Mountain Lion build. I am not even sure what means since I am building a native version.

Thanks for the feedback Pauline. :)

I read that Mountain Lion is an incremental upgrade and you don't really need to upgrade if you don't want to upgrade. I have not upgraded either. :)

Now that Pauline has kindly told us that it works on Mountain Lion I will wait awhile too.

What I actually meant was that there is no reason for anyone to bother getting the version of GIMP 2.8 for Mountain Lion from Lisanet when they have a choice of the McGIMP version which, although basically the same program, it is different in that it has some things, for example G'MIC, already built into it. I have added some of my favorite fonts, brushes and gradients. Then again...someone else might prefer the Lisanet version....If that makes sense.

It would be interesting to know if the lisanet version has some of the same bugs as mcgimp, such as some filter windows opening behind the workspace or the lists not being alphabetical....still I would not change it for my mcgimp as I love having the extra plug ins included. And I am in no hurry to upgrade to mountain lion ..... yet.

@Pauline & 2-ton,

I guess it's time for me to unofficially "officially" unleash, I mean release McGimp on the unsuspecting user. :)

partha I think you can see from this what I mean about things not being in order…it happens with fonts, brushes, gradients, and with choosing images…any place where I have to access a list of some kind…if they are listed in alpha order as a general rule, they arent so in this…I am about to try out the Lisa version to see if this is so there as well….and try not to cause any conflict between the 2 versions.

Pauline,

What happens when you hit the "Name" bar in this list? Does it get automatically sorted?

ok this is the Lisanet version...you can see some subtle differences in the actual facia for a start and then if you look at the list using the same graphic, it appears in alphabetical order by name. I also checked the fonts and they also appear in alphabetical format...one thing with this version is that it picks up all of the fonts from the OS font book, so no need to add them to GIMP as one does in McGimp (this was the only way I can get my favorite fonts working)

I understand, Pauline. The issue does not appear within an X-window since Gimp is not relying on the Mac to do the sorting.

McGimp is native to MacOS and uses the Mac system sorting. So, In McGimp, if you open the file list and then click on "Name", does the list get sorted by name?

Thanks!

No actually it doesnt....I even went so far as to choose .png files only and although the list does change it still is not sorted in alphabetic order...sorry.

Gedit (a gtk 3.x based text editor) also has this issue on osx. It's a glib issue, if you search through the comments you can get some information (the bug has already been filed). http://blogs.gnome.org/jessevdk/2012/01 ... -x-native/

Hi UnconT,

Thanks for your report.

Yes, I am aware that it is a glib issue. I mentioned it in this thread. :)

However, the Macport folks claim that it has been solved. I am looking into their claim.

Oh, that's what you meant.
Well, the latest devel release doesn't fix it, but the macports specific patches might.
/me uses jhbuild

It doesn't. :(

The solution is to use the Mac core services. But I am not seeing it solved. Do you have any suggestions?

PS: I don't use jhbuild or MacPort. GTK+/Glib and friends compile fine on the Mac without any additional tweaks. You do need to install gtk+ mac integration.
