Easy to fix. Just wanted to say THANK YOU! Windows people have been waiting for this compile for a long time.

Hy Partha sorry to be late...i just wake up now

I fear that the solution that most used (nove the dll in the System folder) lead too much disadvantages, as example should break any standard gimp install, and even risk to make much harder future install of 2.
(if will be n the while any change the dll )

i m quite surprise of the output poste4d by ROD :
i see a lot of recurrences of "flam3d" but that should have anything to do with gimp

and most of the py plugin loading there should be not in 2.7.2 as default so should belong to other version of gimp
Anyway i will try again soon...but there is not a way to disable the "import" that happen at first run ?

I don't want gimp 2.7.2 import anything, so if i can't block import i would be forced to unistall gimp -2.6 and gimppainter and clean the registry and my user directory

There was just no way to get it to see the path variable on my machine for some reason.

No luck even with the 32bit version on my other Win machine
This time i even did a clean install, i set the enviromenthal variable as suggested.

I even try to replace "C:\Program Files\gimp-2.7.2\bin;" with "C:\Programmi\gimp-2.7.2\bin;" since my PC use Italian but that didn't solve.
I also saw that all the file were with "read only " permission but even change permission didn't help.

I hate the idea to copy the gimp dll in system32, even if maybe will solve

Anyway if no other solution pop out i can make a back up of the registry, set a restore point, and move the dll there...i really don't like mess with the system dll but i can't imagine other solution since for some reason the enviromenthal variable are ignored

oppss i forgot to grab the console output...doing now

Humm..seems as the first part of the console otput was stripped away, the rest report errors only for the py plugin but no every plugin pop error message and none work (they don't even show up in the menu )

I tried using the system environmental variable, and now I can run both versions of Gimp without problems on XP 32bit.

REMEMBER you need to install [b]Python 2.7.1[/b] !!! If you installed using the tutorial at gimpusers.com to install python for gimp 2.6.11, it installed Python 2.6 which will not work.

I am still having a problem with mathmap, missing .dll,

could you post a screenshoot of the window with your environmental variable ?
I tried on xp too with the 32 bit version but doesn't work for me

PS i have a oldest Python but that should be only a problem to run py script...correct ?





maybe here i may help, MM require some gimp old dll, post the error message i may have the dll

Anyway, back to your issue,

You don't have to copy any dlls to the windows system directory. Gimp has to know how to find its parts. So, you have to modify the path environmental variable which is accessed (on Windows 7) as
Start -> Computer -> System Properties -> Advanced System Setting. A dialogue box will pop up and at the bottom you will see the button "Environmental Variables". When you click on it, you will see 2 boxes, the bottom box is "System variables". If you scroll down inside this box, you will see the path variable. Click (once) to highlight and then click edit. Now, hit home (please don't delete or anything!!) and add the following to the beginning of the box - C:\Program Files\gimp-2.7.2\bin; (Don't forget the semicolon!) Now click "OK" and close all the dialogue boxes.

Now start gimp-2.7.exe.

As for Gimp copying your stuff, you can temporarily rename the file c:\Users\"Your Name"\.gimp-2.6 to something else. Then Gimp will not import anything and create its own c:\Users\"Your Name"\.gimp-2.7. Here "Your Name" is your home working directory. Then inside Gimp, check the preferences to make sure there are no references to .gimp-2.6.

I hope this works for you. I really want to see it working on your machine.

your has a follow up (" C:/Win.." and something else that i can't see) that is missed on mine

that because as i tried to explainj i had no any "Path" entry there to edit...in the screenshoot i can't show all the content but as you may see is not one of the first entry



the closest may be the first ,CLASSPATH but for a computer "CLASSPATH" and "path" may indicate something very different, and the CLASSPATH seems for Java

i don't know how to copy all the list of enviromental variables (if somebody knows i will post ) but i may assure that is nothing there called "Path"
(maybe because my is a HP laptop and always HP mess in the OS)

now since i have no any "Path" to edit i suppose i must create a new one
..the start is "C:\Program Files (x86)\gimp-2.7.2\bin;" then what should be after the";" ?

from your screenshoot after "..\bin;" there is something starting with "C:\WIN", i suppose that for C:\WINDOWS...then follow what you posted ?

PC that is just a carry on for another path to another program.
the exact path is - C:\Program Files\gimp-2.7.2\bin; just how it looks in the image with a ; (semi-colon) at the end to end that path and it begins a new one.

PC i also found that you can have both installed together side by side if you un-install 2.6.11
Then install 2.7.2 - then re-install 2.6.11.

I also have themes working on both now.

Yes now i understand that the semicolon are a separator.
