Hi Deb! Good to see you. :)

I think the issue is probably you have another gimp association in your registry. Are you able to get your registry cleaned of all entries related to Gimp? You can do the manually (only advisable if you know what you are doing) or get a registry cleaner.

Let me know if this does not work.

Thanks,
Partha

I didn't see one for a 32 bit so downloaded Jernej Simončič's build from the gimp site. It doesn't seem to have script-fu? In filters it does but not on the top menu.

Hi Sallyanne, good to see you! :)

Sorry, I don't have a 32-bit build yet. :(

Hmm, did you associate XCF with gimp-2.8.exe (which is located in your main installation folder and not the bin folder)? This part is important.

ok, I can leave it, I do use gimp for mainly photo stuff .

Then you will be happy with 2.9. Stick to the GEGL plugins and the wavelet family. Also, UFRaw will send 16-bit images to 2.9 which it wont for 2.8.x series.

Let me know if you need any assistance. I am glad to help. :)

Yes, I tried 2.9 more today and if I stay with GEGL stuff it works ok .

I tried beautify , just to see and that throw many warnings but did give preview window and seemed to work, even though of the many warnings .

I can try layer stuff in 2.9 and any other move to 2.8 .
Since I have them side by side working .

Oh, is there any other themes for 2.9 so i can see icons a bit better ?

Nope, it makes no difference where you install it.

I tracked down what the issue is and it's on my side and you are doing fine. Can you replace the file gimp-2.8.exe with the attached and let me know if it solves the issue?

Thanks,
Partha

Yes, some of the plugins will works with 16-bit (like the wavelet family). They will all work with 8-bit images.

As for themes, well, you'll have to do 2 things:

1. You'll need to get the original Gimp icons by downloading the gimp source; Replace the current icons from
(Where you installed):\share\gimp\2.0\icons\hicolor\ with the icons you downloaded.
2. Get a theme from gnome-look.org and then either add the theme to your local gimp folder (which will be in C:\Users\YourUserName\Appdata\Roaming\GIMP\2.9 for Windows 7/8) or replace the system theme.

Hi Pauline,

GMIC 1.6.0.0 is included in my build.

So, have you perchance a copy of GMIC in your personal Library (like WW)? If yes, it is probably overwriting the version included in my built. Can you check this?

Probably a similar issue with Line Borders?

It's a self-extracting 7z-zipped file. It's not completely portable since it uses your personal .gimp folder, and no, there is no support for 32-bit plugins.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,
Partha

Great news! Thanks for adding the scrolling interface. :)

No problemo, GnuTux. :)

Just need some testers now.

I am anxious to try the mac one...I'll download tomorrow, as I'm falling asleep in my chair right now! I just need a refresher...do I need to remove my other 2 versions of McGimp or will it ok to download without any house cleaning?

***never mind, after reading some of the posts I see that I can just download it without doing anything special. I am anxious to try out the scrolling script fu so I can use the bevel reflect script stuff and get all the updated G'Mic filters.

Well, boo. I downloaded it, and it said there is already a gimp 2.8 app, do I want to overwrite or keep both. I chose keep both and it calls it gimp 2.8 copy app. To open it, had to allow it because it's not from apple, sigh. I then tried to open it, and the new icon came up and bounced for a while, then asked to be allowed again, said yes, and it disappeared. Now when I try to open it, the dock icons move over to give it room, the mcgimp icon tries to open but blinks immediately out, and the dock icons close the space. I cannot open it at all, even though it shows that the file is there in the finder, and the icon is with the other two mcgimp versions in the app page. I am stumped.

Ok... will try that although I thought I would do a clean reinstall first. When I tried to uninstall windows could not locate the file so had to take it off manually...do you know why that would be?
