It's kinda surprising that GIMP 2.8 has been out for 2.5 years and this Windows transparency issue has gone unmentioned and unreported until now.

Because 2.8.12 fell over people became ultra introspective of the fix

Who needs 9600 zoom anyway?

Well, Rod said this earlier in the thread..

Rod wrote:
Sizing issues are fine here.

You are saying that the sizing issues have always been a problem in GIMP 2.8. for Windows.

So which one is it?

The reason I'm asking is that there will be lots of people coming to GC with problems with the new GIMP release and it would be nice to have the correct answers for them.

if we are talking about loss of trans background: then yes all through 2.8x

if we are talking about missing digit in zoom dropdown:it depends on theme, but themes that don't do this seem to kill python

Well, OK then. The GIMP team knows about both these issues In Windows so when people come here with these problems, we can let them know what's up. :cool

Thanks for helping sort all this stuff out. :bigthup

I should probably create a separate thread outlining the current state of GIMP 2.8.x in Windows. :hehe

is there a tut about compiling Mathmap for windows?
I have tried to compile on Windows 7 for Windows 32-bit application with Mingw(I am using http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw-w64, which can yield 32 or 64-bit application), but find
1. Mingw compiles new llvm without problem. But Mathmap needs old llvm
2. Old llvm cannot be compiled with my Mingw or Visual Studio 2012, there are many errors.

Thnaks

There are already pre-compiled versions for Windows that should work for you.
Read through this thread, Mathmap and 2.8

Both these downloads contain full instructions
MathMap-Win32-Install
MathMap-Win64-Install
note! if using for 64bit Gimp it must have a 32 folder (the 64bit download uses 32bit MathMap plugin)

I have this build. I'd like to start it like an installed version, to use the customizations I have in my C:\Users\Tony\.gimp-2.8 folder I used when I used Partha's build.

(More specifically, I have GPS installed there, and though I can use the brushes, I'd like to see the GPS splash screen as GIMP loads.)

I know I was able to start an earlier samj build with a .bat script, but it doesn't work on this build. (no marigouin.exe.)

Any ideas?

Try pointing Edit>Pref>Folders to that directory. You will have to do them all.

Place the splash image in the splashes folder in the username/.gimp-2.8/splashes folder. if it doesn't exist create it. GIMP will use any image in that folder to load it's splash screen. If you want that splash only delete the one in share/gimp/2.0/images folder.Or replace it with the Gimp Paint Studio splash PNG image.

Not sure what you mean here.

Already did that. No way to point to the Splashes folder. Any way to just point Folders to username/.gimp-2.8 ?

It's in my user folder. Samj's GIMP still uses the one it came with.

Samj told me how to point a previous version of his portable GIMP at my .gimp-2.8 folder. It doesn't work with this version so I'd like him to tell me how I can do that.

As i stated before you will have to remove the original splash from the images folder (share/gimp/2.0/images) and replace it with the GPS splash. (rename the GPS image the same name as the original splash png file).

Actually, I solved that problem. Now I have a new one.

I want to download the Marble Ice theme from thegimp.ca, but I don't see any download link. Got any ideas?
