Thanks for all your hard work on this Mac version of Gimp!
Here's another Mac user, not a lot of spare time, but willing to test, if you still need testers. I use Gimp mostly for photo editing, on several machines - macbook with OS 10.5, mac mini with 10.5, iMac with 10.6. Also have an old iBook running 10.4...

Thanks Mole. Send me a PM and I will give you the details! Try some of the photo editing such as bilateral blur, wavelet family of plugins.

@partha

oh...forgot to go back and look at the other bilateral...well...only other bilateral I could find was...

Filters>Blur>Simple Bilateral...

I ran the default and result didn't seem to change for me...soooo...

1)opened fresh test image
a) this sub-step is critical to my success, Get a fresh cup of coffee!

2)I ran it again with the "size" set to 50…I don't really any change until…
3)open fresh test image and do a side by side and yes I can some difference now.
4) Slide the threshold to max on the fresh image…ok yes, all good :)

Overall, this one works. I had some initial issues with it but I'll chalk that up to user error. I had left a previous Simple Bilateral UI pref window open and that messed up my first results. As I was opening new UI pref windows for each run, that original open window must have been redirecting my results. As a result, all my changing were affecting my "first" opened test file while my newer test files were unchanged.

as for D800…finally understand now hahaha…I've been looking at cartoonish .png files for so long now, forgot about actual "Real" photography! Downloaded those sample photos from Nikon. Awesome stuff…I can actually read some of the titles of the books in that library picture at full resolution. I am taking donations for a new camera btw folks :) I wouldn't say no to a new Canon MarkIII either ;) (any new camera will do haha)

The idea with the bi-lateral blur is to be subtle. :) Best use is for strategic facial modifications since it will not blur edges.

Now you see why Gimp will have to be faster... :)

Thanks for the PM. Have downloaded your version of Gimp, but it will not work on my 10.6.8 machine. Here is the error message:

Quote:
Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /usr/X11/lib/libfreetype.6.dylib
Referenced from: /tmp/pb/Gimp.app/Contents/Frameworks/libcairo.2.dylib
Reason: Incompatible library version: libcairo.2.dylib requires version 14.0.0 or later, but libfreetype.6.dylib provides version 13.0.0

Perhaps version of X11 (2.3.6) on my machine is not compatible...

try it on one of your machines with the older version of osx and see if it works, that might help figure out why it isn't working.

Mole,

As I mentioned in my PM to you, it will only work on Snow Leopard or later. Note that there is no X11 in this version, and it runs as a native Mac app.

2-ton,

Apple changed a lot from 10.6 to 10.8. So, it won't work on the older versions. That is why I mentioned that it needs to be Snow-Leopard or higher.

I do need someone with Lion to test it for me.

Thanks for the reminder - I didn't think it would work on the 10.5 machine.

But still puzzled by the crash log message from the 10.6 machine - it looks like it is referencing some library from X11, even though it is not using X11:

Quote:
Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /usr/X11/lib/libfreetype.6.dylib

Hi Mole,

This is because of how I built cairo. I will rectify that after we fix the other issues. In any case, X11 is not used in this build at all.

Hi Partha,

Continuing testing.......
I get an error message from python fu brush from text.
Integer Argument Expected. Got Float.
Copy and Paste seems to not work here. But i can recreate.

A large majority of what i have used is fine staying away from script fu , and i think i have used a majority.

For me there are some windows that do open infront of the main window.

The Retinex filter window pops up no problem as do a few others.

Do you want these all noted or do you have some other focus that you would rather be tested.......

Regards....(still trying to not drag and drop layers, a hard habit to break)

Those Nikon images are amazing.

This is good to know. I am glad you tested this. Also, for most of photo work, it seems to be working fine. I think the issue is probably with glib that I am using. I have to find time to test my theories. Anyway thanks for the feedback. :)

Script-fu I already know about. I understand about the drag-&-drop. :)

Thanks again for your help.

argh, last night I ran across something that totally shut gimp down...but alas, I cannot remember what it was. I was using the single window, which btw, is quite handy. I think I am beginning to like it.

Hi 2-ton,

Great to know! I am liking it very much also!

I am rebuilding Gimp completely so that hopefully some of the issues that we have found on this thread can be resolved.

Your image seems to have the promised gallery at the top. Is this also in the Win version? How do I access it?

Are you referring to 2-ton or to me? :)

Anyway, I don't understand the question about the promised gallery. Can you elaborate?

Thanks,
Partha

I was referring to you. You have some thumbnails at the top of the screen. A long long time ago when the ideas for 2.8 were first announced, I recall reading somewhere about and seeing an image of a "gallery" method of opening images similar to the Open office gallery where you just drag them onto the main window. It was one of the things I was looking forward to in the new Gimp but thought they had dropped the idea.

Ahh, OK. I had to go back to the beginning of the thread to understand what you were saying. :)

Gimp will show you thumbnails of all open images if you open more than 1 image. They will all be lined up at the top.

You can of course drag-&-drop images from your file manager onto Gimp.

I am not familiar with the Open office gallery to comment on it.

Ah... I think I misunderstood what I had read and seen. I never knew this about Gimp. Thank you and thanks for your work on the 2.7 releases.
