Google "summer of code" is a program where Google sponsors students who wish to contribute to a FOSS project. Each student will have a mentor who guides them through the development cycle. More info regarding mentors and project ideas for GIMP can be found here.

Sorry about opening this sort of aged thread, but I have a question. Where do the fruits of the SoC reveal itself? A few years back there was a project concerning GPU acceleration of some GIMP plugins, but it died apparently. This time, I saw a few things concerning features similar to what PS introduced that allows for seamless manipulations (adaptive warping) of objects like a character arm for instance to allow puppet like manipulations of those objects. Was it a success? Just curious. :)
