If you use PSPI, do not install the 2.6.11 update. Trust me. Very disappointed I am (should have listened to my own advice; lol). 2.6.10 still works fine (after re-install). :)

What scares me is the developers still treat PSPI as a redheaded stepchild and may never patch GIMP because of it. What they should do is say no mass and do a full fledged support for PS plugins. GIMP's been able to use PS plugins (via PSPI) for a very long time now. There really is no excuse for shoddy support (no offense to Tor; he amazingly was able to add PS support using all open license techniques) and Adobe gives this support, I believe, fee free (could be wrong though). Maybe somebody ought to develope a hybrid GIMP that has better support for PS plugins. I don't know the solution. All I do know is that I'm disappointed again that they release code that has more bugs then the bug fix they supposedly patch (am I just too demanding? lol). :)

you know what the solution ,xnview or irfanview, even on linux thank to wine

And the problem is that GPL SW can NOT include not GPL code, for respect to the licence

The only soluction i may image is similar to that of Ubuntu for drivers:
at soon you open a new install you will get a message which sense is
" we didn't install not open source driver , if you need proprietary driver Click Here."

A good gimp installer may do something alike:
advice that are available also "not OS "but free and compatible add on (as PSPI ) available just clicking on a button during install

Because the rule (that would make happy a lawyer ) is that OS and not OS can't be packed or distribuited togheter, but not that can't be used togheter...and nothing prevent installer to offer options to download also no GPL component

Already happens ...how often installer of GPL programs prompt to install no GPL ESSENTIAL library
(a commune case of installer prompt:
"this program require Net.Framework ...do you prefer install it now or give up with the installation? )

I use GIMP mainly in Windows PC and in Windows, PSPI runs reasonably well and I don't like cut and paste (not to mention no layer transparancy capability with the filters that can do this ) between Irfanview and GIMP unless I absolutely have too. I'll just stick with 2.6.10 and hopefully, if a 2.6.12 gets released, it will resolve the PSPI issue. :)

Yes that of the alpha channel stripped away by copy& paste is a PITA
But when a good preview is needed as in all my work with kaleidoscope , so i had to find a workaround:
Save and drag& drop instead then copy and paste
( i save in a temporary folder pinned open, then i drag the thumbs from the folder to the gimp image window or toolbox )

Sure there are a few PS filter (as FilterUnlimited ) that preserve a good preview even in gimp, but are so rare exception :gaah

I usually download the new versions, and install them into different directories at first.
Just to test them. The only down side is the program auto chooses the 2.6 folder in user docs as a copy source. =)

As you can see i had no problems with the PSPI plug-in at all.Ran Flaming Pears vein filter without a hitch.
Also Python installed with no problems as well.

A few PS filters still works. It was the ones that were created with Filter Meister (already have sorry previews; lol) that crapolaed. I believe the Flaming Pear filters (when I had 11 installed) did work. Not sure what the issues are with Filter Meister filters; always had the weird preview issues with these type filters. Now it crashes them in version 11. Again, I do hope the PSPI issues gets resolved if they patch GIMP again. :)

I do have the equivalent GIMP filter (filter factory convertor) by the way and it works. Not talking about this. More specifically, the free Xero filters and DCSpecial filters (believe DC's plugins were created using Filter Meister, but not sure about Xero even though both these family of filters crashed (Flaming Pear uses there own custom creator and have had good success using them in GIMP); many cool PS plugins are created using Filter Meister and PSPI never did a good job with the display engine for these type, but now, they are crashing with GIMP 2.6.11). They still work fine (if you will; lol) with 2.6.10. :)

http://www.xero-graphics.co.uk/freeware.htm

http://www.bmath.net/new/prvw.htm (now keep in mind, there are a couple of these filters that I never got to work in GIMP, but the ones that I like using the most are ICE4 and Nylon). :)

It might be a Windows thing then. Not sure what OS you are running. I use Win7 64-bit but use 32-bit GIMP. :)

Wish I didn't do this exercise, but re-installed version 11 just for you Rod (now I have GIMP version 2.6.10 back; lol). It's definitely with version PSPI and GIMP 2.6.11. I actually used Taskmanager to close GIMP, but PSPI was still running and had to separately close it. Now, if anyone here have the inside scoop with the developers, please patch GIMP or make PSPI better (which I would be happy if they took this approach; lol). :)
