apparently 2.7.1 miss a important dll (intl.dll)

Consequence all third party plugin including GAP don't work

PS

not sure if is a correct procedure but apparently add that dll back (in the gimp bin folder) fix everything
The dll is in older version of gimp and in inkscape (and i suppose may found on the net by google )

GEGL works great...all filters ran smoothly
GMIC runs very nicely...i say well done developers...this is a very nice version.

Keep us posted on bugs! And what is the best way to upgrade and still keep all the stuff I have added?

Is there a portable version yet?

Those are perfect for trying out and not having to install on a already overloaded computer.

1 for misterious reasons the windows installer first Unistall the current gimp version
( i have gimpainter ,based on 2.67, the unistaller luckily could not detect it, and apparently there are no problem to run both version along side )

2) so no upgrade is possible, only replace a version with the other
(maybe is possible reinstall 2.6.8 after )

3) as i reported before a dll (intl.dll ) needed by many extra plugin is not present in 2.7.1 (at least on windows)
No idea if was removed by mistake or from some good reason....i add it back and all plugins i try seems working well...apparently not connected side effect

4) about " keep the stuff " it depend from how you added the stuff
a) if in new folder linked from preference, no problem you just have to add again in preference the path
b) if in the Gimp folder in your user directory (Documents and Settings/yourname in xp or Users/yourname in Vista and 7 )
even easier just copy the subfolder with extras and paste on the correspondent folders of gimp 2.7.1)
c) if in the discoraged way by adding in the Gimp folders in Program Files/gimp no easy way

5) sometimes onj my pc the toolbox and the docks just vanished, i have to add it back (view/new toolbox and windows/dock)
Anyway the vanished toolbox didn't make gimp close (i suppose they were somehow still open but no more displayed )

It wouldn't work with gmic and mathmap. Even after I uninstalled them and cleaned the registry of them it still gave me errors about them but it still worked. It seems to lag me a little but I had several things running at once so that might not be the case. The really annoying thing about it is that after removing then reinstalling gimp themes my favorite themes are gone I think it's called midnight or something like that, dark grey with light blue or orange. The ones offered now are how shall I say it? Less than desirable.
But everything is quiet, I don't feel like sleeping so I'm about to give it a good going over and make my mind up about it. I put it on my laptop but for some reason gimp themes wouldn't run so I put it back to 2.8.

I was really looking forward to Single window mode, i didn't see any way of doing it then i watched Rolf's tut on meetthegimp and his Gimp 2.7.11 had buttons above the tools section. Mine doesn't have those. hmmm something to ponder

yes reinstall mathmap is possible but a bit cumbersome

First because it requires the old version of some dll ,now renamed
And then because for some reasons fail to find its "mathmap" folder, that with the code of the filters
So the filter need to be loaded using the "load" button In the Expression Tab

They work fine but is not so confortable use in that way

i will ask in the MM group for some tip to make MM find its own expression folder

Again in theory is a bad habit play with dll (as paste back the 2 dll replaced by something else by the developers but still needed by MM) ..anyway mathmap seems working now and also gimp 2.7.1

you should solve esily for gmic,

for mathmap is more complex first for the dll problem, then solved that you may execute codes by loading them from some other directory outside gimp...or by paste them in the expression tab...but not any code is pre-loaded , the filter tab is empty

at least happened to me i asked advice in the MM group )

i loaded all my plugins and scripts into 2.7.1 and got alot of dll errors concerning zlib
so i just removed the zlib dll in the plugin folder and mine works great now.i think cause there was one already in the bin folder? not sure though, maybe a conflict.
i did save the dll file...just in case though...lol

these however i cannot get to work at all...
seperate.exe (missing dll)
seperate_import.exe (missing dll)
ufraw_gimp (missing dll)
mathmap (missing dll)
normalmap (missing dll)
and two scripts...
lab_wow and lab_colorpunch (probably not compatable with version 2.7)
i even got PSPI to work and all my adobe plugins work great.
PSPI shows in the Filters menu and everything works well.

I finally got round to this.

I copied a bunch of dll files from a gimp portable version I still had on an USB into the bin folder and then it would start up. Haven't checked if the plug-ins and scripts work.

To be honest, I was just wondering where the brush dynamics went. Anyone know?

for mathmap ufraw and normalmap but i suppose all the others plugin it is just question of copy and paste back the old dll (were in the gimp bin folder, the error messages will include their names)

Those dll are all replaced now by others with a slightly different names (i.e intl.dll by libintl8.dll ) but also because the names were changed should be not conflict with the old one:
Old "extra" plugin will look for old dll , the bundled plugin for the new...at least i got no problem in this way

Not sure about the scripts should be not big change in script fu

WOW! ... i just realized in 2.7.1 there are now Layer Groups!
I had no idea this was implemented in 2.7
I figured it would be out in 2.8

This is so cool. You can now right click a layer and select new layer group and a folder will be added to the layers dialog. =)
If you create a new layer while that layer(folder) is selected it will go right into that layer group. You can also drag and drop layers into folders. You can also make either one or all layers invisible within layer groups.I feel so dumb not seeing this earlier. :coolthup
Here are some images...
