Very nice filter David Tschumperlé. I like it a lot that you can see the "build-up" of the filtered image, when the filter is executed with "Ok".

Thank you.

(latest version G'MIC (2.1.6.is needed for this filter)

@David Tschumperlé,

In some way, this filter reminds me of another image tool:

Here is a blog from Roger Johansson, that writes about a genetic algorithm to produce an image with transparant geometric shapes, like circels, triangles etcetera:

https://rogerjohansson.blog/2008/12/07/ ... mona-lisa/

Source code:
https://rogerjohansson.blog/2008/12/11/ ... -binaries/
https://code.google.com/archive/p/alsing/downloads

Another example of this:
from Aaron Fan:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/imageevolver/

And on Github:
https://github.com/aaronbot3000/image-evolver

Is it possible to make something like this with G'MIC? That you can execute this filter, until the moment you are happy with the result?

It looks like a pretty nice effect. I get the following error when I try to use it.

Hello PhotoMaster, do you have the latest G'MIC 2.1.6 pre? Did you refresh your filters (with internet on)?

2.1.6 pre and filters refreshed. Linify is there. But when I select the filter, there is no preview. There is a preview error msg. in place of the preview image. I tried to run it and got the error shown above.

@PhotoMaster, yes, I had to make some changes in the G'MIC core code in order to implement the linify filter, so you probably have to update your binaries as well (you have an older 2.1.6_pre).

@iarga: I've already read this blog post in the past, and even implemented the algorithm (so-called 'ShapeMe'). But it takes soooooo long to produce good looking images that I just abandoned the idea (took dozens of minutes for a very small image).

Ronounours,
Thanks for your help. I tried installing the latest, but my AV is reporting it as infected and is stopping me from using it.

Avast just notified me that G'Mic has tested fine. Just reinstalling now!

PhotoMaster,

If you use the zip file and just copy the new files in your plugin folder (c:\Users\yourname\.gimp2.?\plug-ins\) ,then you will avoid one (brand new, unique installation) exe-file to verify by Avast.

Edit: but when we use the unique, brand new installation files, Avast will verify. Then we will do other users a favour, because Avast already knows it is safe. ;)

Also the unzipped new exe-files, are files Avast want to verify sometimes.

It gave a warning when installing, but allowed the install.
It gave another warning when I tried to run Gimp and blocked the exe.
I uninstalled it and downloaded the zip.
I ran Gimp before installing the zip, with no errors, so I could look at my folders setting to know where to put the unzipped files.
Then I unzipped the files to the folder and when I ran Gimp I got the same warning and the exe was blocked.
The AV said there were multiple virus complaints and it had to be cleared.
As soon as it was cleared, I got a message that it was safe.

Here is my first attempt. I'm liking this filter!
