This isn't possible in Gimp-2.10.38 REV 1, nor in Gimp-3.0.4.
Gimp-3.1.3 actually sees Open Type Bitmap Fonts. This is awesome. GO DEVS!



Did this change in Gimp-3.1? Or a newer commit?

This is actually how i created the beercap Custom Font. I opened the font in 3.1.3 and just copied each letter to another file as pngs. Then i opened it as layers in Gimp-2.10.38 REV 1 and created the font from there. Pretty cool.

Yet another way to create some cool Custom Fonts in Gimp-3.1.3 and Gimp-2.10.38.

This looks cool but, fonts are letters, letters make words and words communicate information and ideas. I would say the beauty of the font is inversely proportional to it's ability at getting any message across to anybody.

The fact decorating fonts is an end in itself says nothing about art IMHO, but more about the devolution of the human race. It looks more like Tulip Mania.

Now, if only they fixed the clipping bug introduced after May 30th in 3.0.5. You know the one where drop shadow (and my plugins) clip while typing text.

So let me break this down and see if i am hearing you correctly.
You do not think decorating fonts is art?
And you do not think Custom Fonts will be popular very long? You know like your tulip.

You have your right to your opinions.

My opinion is that Custom Fonts will be here well at least until i am gone. God willing i live a long happy retirement.
And i do believe font decoration is art in it's own realm.

Hope i am not stepping on toes here. But some times you can post some very confusing comments.

Those experienced in advertising, posters etc know this is true. The viewer, like the creator of the decorative font forgets what the message was, instead focusing on the beautiful font.

Well, there is a place for all sorts of fonts, up to the user.

This is a SVG font, and it does work here with a Gimp 3.0.4 appimage but not a Gimp 3.1.3 appimage from gimp.org. There are error messages with that last one and guessing it is a libpango / librsvg version issue. As ever, variations with platform, such is life.

Whatever the result, you can try Inkscape, works with my kubuntu 24.04 / Inkscape 1.4 appimage
