There was a brief interview with Tor Lillqvist on The Document Foundation's blog which might be of interest to some GIMPers.

For over a decade, Mr Lillqvist has been the person responsible for there being a Windows version of GIMP offered. Even when the compiled binaries were being provided by other developers (e.g., Partha, Jernej Simončič, ...), it was only made possible owing to Tor's work porting the GTK+ framework to run on Windows (and my understanding is that up until a couple of years ago, all free Windows versions of GIMP came directly from Mr Lillqvist). Tor Lillqvist also wrote the PSPi plugin which is used to run some Photoshop filters.

Earlier this year, Tor retired from the project of porting GIMP/GTK+ to Windows and while the interview barely broached his GIMP-related activities, it would seem a good time to reflect upon the contributions he has made over the years.

Yes; Tor definitely was the man then and greatful I am. Just wish the GIMP Developers wouldn't have broken PSPI like they did. Also wish Tor would temporarily come back and modify PSPI one last time (doubt the developers would fix GIMP), but I understand why he did retire. GIMP's gotten a little bit political I think of late and that has to be why 2.8 has not been released yet. Too many folk demanding too many features (not that my request for a wrap brush and the myriad of other requests that I made have added to this issue; lol). Still, you are right Saul of how much praise Tor justly deserves. Indeed, I mainly use GIMP in Windows and for over a decade myself so you know how greatful I am.

I for one am very great-full for all his contributions to a stable Windows version of Gimp.

I for one would freely admit that I got my early Gimp builds using Mr. Lillqvist's gtk builds. Totally indebted to his stuff. Of course, now that he has stopped providing binaries, I had to learn how to build my own , but again by reading a lot of his stuff.
