Long time user of MyPaint, i always found the brush system amazing, and now this possibility of having this system into GIMP can only be a big improvement for GIMP.

Now i wonder if it will be accepted by the devs or if it will have to go the fork way.

If i remember well, several months ago Kryta did have the MyPaint brush system implemented too.

Looks like the main obstacle regarding a possible GIMP implementation will be if it is possible to port it to GEGL or not , as GIMP is not getting anything anymore that is not GEGL based.

I hope it will be possible , as this would be a very welcome addition for people wanting to use GIMP to paint, as currently GIMP is very clunky regarding its brush system in comparison to the MyPaint one.

Or if it does not make it into GEGL, i hope about a fork so this improvement is not abandonned or lost in arguing.

Interesting also because in several replies are precise competent critics on the gimp brush system
I know that was done a good work to redesign and improve it, alas now seems much slower and less responsive, and many important option (i.e. to save and reuse preset) are so well hidden that few that use gimp for painting have noticed them...and i believe no user that more seldom use brushes will never notice them.

still i am very perplex about Peter Sikking (the "usability guru") advices (in the link):
his theory makes sense, but it seems too often forgot that theory should be confirmed by the practice, and if the practice is negative, is the theory (or at least its application on that peculiar case) that should be revised and adapted and not vice versa

Not that his contribution is not useful, if there is a problem is not from his side:
the main problem i see for "usability "come to give too much value and trust to the opinion of a "usability expert", and simultaneously underestimate or ignore that from users, that may know much better the usability problems because they have to face them on daily bases and not in theory but in practice

.As a paragon a restaurant that will propose its menu only on the basis of the opinions of nutritionists and marketing expert almost ignoring that of its clients will risk a quick bankrupt

It would be pretty simple to compile this for Windows if all the configure, and Makefile.in were included in the src tar download.

I really hope this is implemented as I love the MyPaint brush system but prefer the Gimp layer system. I wouldn't need Gimp Painter any more either and could switch easily to Gimp 2.8.
