Not meaning to sound like complaining; in a way, I'm just glat that the 2.8 monicker is now official. Worried about Script-fu compatibility as well as plugin portablility which usually occurs in major releases like this. Since I only played a little with 64-bit version of 2.7x, I know a lot of plugins have not been ported to this particular version of GIMP (the 32-bit appears to be fine with current 2.6x plugins). I do want to go 64-bit all the way, but we already had discussions here and it doesn't look like plugins such as Mathmap or Filter Factory convertor (User filter) will get a port. Some great guys already ported a 64-bit version of G'MIC so that is cool. Anyway, still happy with the improvements so, again, don't let this thread sound like I'm ungreatful Prokoudine because that would not be true.
Another request if possible would be to go ahead and include Python in the Windows installer much like they already have for Inkscape. A lot of beta program packagers such as Photocomix and especially Partha have included their builds with Python as part of them. Samj also has done a lot of good stuff supporting 64-bit plugins for Window users and definitely am greatful for all the guys effort that have attempted and succeeded in both creating the builds as well as sharing their efforts with folk like me.
