GIMP Version: 2.8.10
Operating System: Mac OS
GIMP Experience: Intermediate Level

When I attempt to use the text tool, typing a letter which calls another tool from the tool window brings up that tool. I have not found it possible, for example, to type 'water'. The 'w' is ok. The 'a' brings up the airbrush. The 't' brings up nothing. The 'e' brings up the ellipse tool.... help

This problem is known, but normally fixed by Gimp 2.8.10....

I have Gimp 2.8.2 and 2.8.4. For some reason, cannot install 2.8.10. download and double click, something happens and then nothing happens. Have worked with earlier versions of gimp for several years with no problem. A disastrous crash lost me that version and I don't seem to be able to recover or reload it. Tried to load version 2.6. No luck. Hate to go to another software. ....

Have you tried Partha's build? It seems to be popular with our members who use MAC.

Hmm. Why is your initial post stating that you have 2.8.10?

I had this problem or a similar problem. What was happening was that the letters that were also shortcuts were only doing the shortcut, so I could not type text. I went in somewhere in gimp preferences and found the shortcuts listings and turned every single one off. I never use shortcuts anyway, so no loss there for me. Gimp works fine now, I can type text.
