Brushes Lag for Monoprice Tablet

Monoprice Tablet

Due to working with a monoprice tablet on the Mac, I have to use the older version of GIMP to work with any pen pressure. However, I had recently updated the version of my Mac to Yosemite and when I tried to start drawing, I was met with an incredible lag with the brush. The tablet works fine with regular mouse usage but trying to use the brush causes it to lag a few seconds behind. I've tried to free up some space or have other applications off when I draw but nothing seems to be working.

Try turning-off Gimp's ruler displays (View> Show rulers)

I tried turning off the rulers and it did help the lag a bit but the lag is still present and gets especially slow if I try to do long or fast strokes.

I've heard a lot about tablets not working correctly when used with Gimp. I guess I'm lucky to never run into any issues with my Wacom tablet while using it with Gimp.

The thing about it is that my Monoprice has been working just fine with Mavericks and Gimp 2.6.11. It wasn't until I updated to Yosemite that everything went to crap. I've tested my tablet on my really old PC with Windows (also has Gimp 2.6.11) and it worked just fine with no lag. I've been searching for a solution and can't find one that gets rid of the problem. Even removing the rulers only helps the lag very slightly.
