Hello everyone,
I was screen recording while designing on GIMP perfectly fine, until one day a problem suddenly appeared, that whenever I'm screen recording, some functions doesn't work on GIMP, like reordering the layers in the layers dialog, or dragging the FG color to fill the canvas. I spent several days looking for a solution, I tried 5 different screen recorders, I tried deleting GIMP 2.10.38 and reinstall it, I tried restart my computer, I tried older GIMP versions but the problem persisted, I looked in the internet and I found this old discussion on gnome that maybe about the same problem I face, this is the title of it :

I couldn't understand anything though, they where talking about some patch, and I've zero knowledge about coding and developing.

does anyone know how to fix this problem please ?

With what you say it looks like Gimp stops responding when you are doing screen recording but otherwise it's OK. It could be you are using-up the available ram. When that happens Gimp 'swaps to disk' and that slows it down. From Gimp 'Preferences' you can improve performance slightly by allocating more resources. Change swap compression to 'best performance and increase number of threads to use. Make that the same number as your CPU cores.

This depends on screen recording program (not GIMP's fault) Drag and drops don't work for me on certain screen recording programs.
I used OBS now which allows GIMP to function as normal.

the settings are on 'best' performance so I think the problem is something else. thank you very much for your help.

so that means there is no solution for the problem for all GIMP versions with GTK2 right?

I read in the issue #1082 they where trying to fix it by adding a patch, but I don't know if this is something only the developers can do!

I'm temporarly using GIMP 3.0 RC because I need to screen record simultaneously, but due to it being unstable version, it crashes alot while I'm designing.

I've tried OBS,Free Cam,ShareX,ScreenRec and another one I forgot its name, and the problem persisted with all of them unfortunately.

What that's weird. OBS doesn't prevent me from drag and drop. Unless you haven't turned of your one program that's always running in background maybe.
maybe you're being spied on by some process that you don't know about I think it was Free Cam 8 that prevented me from dropping and dragging i mean it looks like it does the drag and drop but had no effect, since i went to OBS no problems.

The issue that was closed was for Gimp 2.10.30 and this issue is with 2.10.38. How could the issue have been closed 2 years before 2.10.38 came out?

A solution is do your screen recording with a GoPro then you also have a device to put on your helmet for mountain biking

If we're not aware, then we can't fix the problems, so it'd be much appreciated!

Jehan also said in his answer that the problem was fixed in GTK 3

the problem started with Free Cam 8 , but then extended to othen screen recorders too unfortunately.

twix-four4: Sure, you can do that! All you really need to do is post the log that appears in the debug window when GIMP crashes, and explain what you were doing when that happened. That's usually enough information to help us find the problem, and if it's not, we'll ask follow-up questions.
