GIMP Version: 3.0.2
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: Win 10
GIMP Experience: New User

I am having issues with Gimp taking a long time to load files. This morning I was testing the same file with 2.10.38 and 3.0.2. With 2.10 it takes 0:17 to open the file, in 3.0.2 its takes 1:16. PDF is 18.5mb I will provide hardware specs below, but given that it opens fine in 2.10, I don't think HW is the issue. I also checked that the same options were selected on the import menu. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate them.

OS is running off a Gen 5 NVMe

Not sure if this will be very helpful,
but here it goes.

GIMP is now on the 3.0.4 Released.
Perhaps an update will help?
I myself have 3.0.0 installed and also 2.10.23
and they both lunch at around at same speed,
when opening a PDF file.
I roughly counted between 4-5 seconds for both 3.0.0 and 2.10.23
I'm surprised my Gimp lunches as quickly as it does,
with all the stuff I've crammed into it.

Oh, Completely my mistake, I am on 3.0.4. I just double checked. And I also double checked and it is indeed a PDF file.

Is there any other information I can provide that may help narrow down where I'm seeing an issue?

@Chef
I can reproduce your results, Kubuntu 24.04 and Gimp 2.10.38 / Gimp 3.0.4 (appimage)
A 18 MB PDF - a 60 page magazine mixed text and graphics. 35 seconds vs. 1min - 40 seconds.
If you open the Gimp dashboard, Windows -> Dockable Dialogs -> Dashboard loading the PDF is not heavy on resources much the same in 2.10 or 3.0 so not that.
I thought it might be color management, but that turned on/off make no difference.
Then if the PDF contains lots of text / fonts maybe Gimp font rendering is slow. However rendering all text to vectors using Scribus makes no difference
Gimp versions ? I can go back to Gimp 3.0.0 (appimage) and no difference there.
Probably worth a report to the devs https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues

Just a random thought after reading Rich's post.
Maybe it's also worth checking if both versions have identical fonts installed?
I would also check if when you saved the file in Gimp3 it reopens just as slowly and is the same size?
