Not able to save/export files Windows 11

GIMP Version: 3.2.6
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: Windows 11
GIMP Experience: New User

List any ERROR messages you received:
Saving 'C:\Users\tfgat\OneDrive\Pictures\Hawaii\2.jpg' failed:

Could not open 'C:\Users\tfgat\OneDrive\Pictures\Hawaii\2.jpg' for writing: No such file or directory

Hello, new user here. I just downloaded GIMP and am having issues saving/exporting files.

Saving 'C:\Users\tfgat\OneDrive\Pictures\Hawaii\2.jpg' failed:

Could not open 'C:\Users\tfgat\OneDrive\Pictures\Hawaii\2.jpg' for writing: No such file or directory

I have tried giving the folder write permissions, added GNU Image Manipulation Program App to
allowed apps and features on Windows Defender, searched the internet, searched this site and the
only thing that I have found to work is turning off Windows Defender. Is there a workaround for
this issue?

One possibility is that Windows Defender may be blocking GIMP from writing to your OneDrive Pictures folder.

You could try adding GIMP (gimp.exe) under Windows Security,
Ransomware protection,
Allow an app through Controlled folder access.
If that works,
save the file locally and then copy/move it into OneDrive.
That should avoid having to disable Windows Defender.

I’d try this before disabling Defender completely.
You might also test saving to your Desktop to see if that works.

At least we know GIMP is saving files correctly.
It looks like the problem may be specific to the OneDrive Pictures folder.

As a side note,
if saving to the Desktop isn't good enough,
you could try a symbolic link to the OneDrive Pictures folder.
That may get around the problem.
