Ok i have been trying to make an av from a youtube video. Can't seem to do it or get any help. When I do get help it's not what i want. They telling to get other programs I don't want to, I want to do it all in gimp/gap. Can someone make me a tut or link me to one please as of...

1. How to resize it.
2. How to add text.
3. How to add a border.
4. How to slow it down or speed up.
5. How to save it as a gif file. When I try it won't save as one.
6. Any any other details I may need to know.

I am asking all this again due to I have not used gimp nor gap in a few years. And I'm use to the old gimp & gap. And I need a re-fresh.
Also I want to make sure I am opening gap right. This is how I am doing it.

1. Open Gimp
2. Go to video - split video in to frames then i'm lost from there.

Or should I be going to filters?

Also there is this tut that showed you how to unlock the gimp (gimp pan panels) screen so when you close one screen it won't all shut down. Something like that it was a LONG time ago. I'm not new as I said I just have not used gimp in a few years. And the last one was a tut it tells you a few ways to add text to make it look better.

If you know which frame you would like to use in the video you can pause it at the correct frame and then use GIMP to do a screen grab.

Let me open my GIMP to tell you where it's in the menu (at the left)

File / Create / Screenshot

a window comes up for you to choose specifics.....add enough seconds so you have time to make sure the video screen is clear and when GIMP records the screen it will be automatically loaded in ready for you to crop/scale and so on

Crop the image if needed then scale it



this brings up a window where you choose exact pixel size

A important point GAP is mainly to make animations using "frames" (frames are as images except that the name include a sequential number ) no with layers ...That of Gif on the contrary is a animation based on layers

Gap include also a plugin to combine all frames in a single image (and viceversa to split a image with several layers in frames )
but there is a big difference when working on frames instead then with layer and this may have confused you

So

1)How to resize it.
?? do you want work on a resized version or resize at the very end, before saving ?

2. How to add text.
"Frames" may have several layer, you just add the text on a new layer on top

3. How to add a border.
As for 2
4. How to slow it down or speed up.

Answer is very different if you want save as a video or flash file or as gif
You wrote you want save as gif, so you will use GAP "frames to image" to have all frames as layer of a single image
And then NOT gap but a script called "animation setting" by Saulgoode to set the time of the layers

5. How to save it as a gif file. When I try it won't save as one.
Because when you split a video in frames you have no a image with many layers but a lot of images each with a single layer
you may even save that as gif but will be no animation at all:
Well as i said first you should convert all Frames in layers(VIDEO/frames to image)...then you save as usual
You may want before save the gif use Filter/animation/optimize to shink the file size
After you optimize you CANNOT change layer position or will look as crap, Optimize should be the last step before saving

it is even possible that not all Gap plugins works correctly with gimp 2.7.3
There was a recent post on this forum about a version of gimp 2.7.3 that included the very last Gap , you may check for detail

i didn't try yet to use Gap with gimp 2.7 so i can't say more
