I downloaded a few patterns from deviantArt.com and placed them in the correct folder, but this is the error message I get when I refresh my patterns, (see attachment).



The patterns have a .pat extension and for all intensive purposes show up as just that, Gimp pattern files, but will not load.
I also still have the pattern files if anyone would like to check them out, but I don't know how I can upload the pattern files in question to Gimp Chat.

Would anyone know what's going on here?

They are probably PS patterns. There is a plugin that allows you to even use PS plugins.

Thanks for the link, but it's not working.
I did however see this plugin, but it had a file extension of .c so I didn't download it.

Are you sure about this link?

It's a plugin right?, so it would go into the same folder with all my other plug-ins.

i have this script installed
if i remember correctly with this script installed you can drag PS patterns into Gimp and then save the individual pictures as Gimp-patterns

im attaching it and yes, it belongs in the plug-ins folder

Thanks I'll give it a try. I do think that the patterns are photoshop patterns after all. Although they sure look like Gimp patterns to me, with the right extension and everything.

I have photoshop CS5, but I'd rather use Gimp...

Looks like that script is just for windows, not Linux.

Try opening them in Gimp as image files first and then export as .pat files.

Has nothing to do with PSPI. If the plugin doesn't have the .exe extention, then it's not compiled (was under the impression that it was compiled but didn't open the zip file linked my PC's thread at the Registry; you know what assume means. lol). If you need the compiled exe plugin for Windows, please let me know. If you are using Linux, then you may need to compile this plugin yourself (i.e., don't ask me. lol).

yes, Odin, that is what I do too. You can make a pattern out of anything. I just download to my desktop and save it as a png, resize it in gimp and save as either a pat or leave it as a png, they both work. Place it in your pattern folder.

I got the needed files and installed them. The only thing is that if I drag a PS pattern to my Gimp and it has, say 5 or more patterns. I have to save each layer as a single pattern, that can be a lot of work.
Is there another way of doing this, or is this how it's done?

I got CS5 free, but don't use it as much as I use my Gimp.

There is an adobe photoshop brush viewer (opensource) but not sure about pattern viewer unfortunately.

Thanks... I have an abr viewer and it really comes in handy.

So I guess if I drag a PS pattern into Gimp, I have to make a pattern fron each layer to get all the patterns that the .pat file provided.

Maybe the script save-pat-layers it will be helpful,script save each layer to a folder .gimp 2.x-> patterns, in .pat extension.The script can be found under File-> Save layers as patterns.

This script may come in handy, instead of saving each layer individually/manually as I'm doing now.
