No, you did exactly what I wanted you to do. The reason your background is pink, is because your layer didn't have an alpha channel, and therefore it chose the same color as your current background color selected, which is pink, right?

If you right click the layer and add an alpha channel, then delete an inverted selection, the background outside your circles will be transparent. Make sense?

Whoa, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. A tutorial at this point wouldn't help, until you first understand what's happening. I am going to make a sample xcf file of just paths of circles 3 x 5, nothing else. We'll work from there.

Open the xcf file, the selections should already be displaying. Are they displaying for you?

Sorry it took me so long, had to make about 30 trips to the woodpile. :0

Ok, well, the whole point of this xcf file is to show how useful paths are. So instead of having transparent circles for a template, just use paths. Paths can be converted to selections, paths will always remain in the same location (unless you move them). They can be used over and over again.

I am now creating a small, very short video of me using the heart brush with this xcf file, just to highlight my points. I'll post the video shortly. :)

Watch it a few times, without trying too hard to make sense of everything all at once.

Toward the end, when I use the Ellipse tool to select the top left bottle cap, you'll see my mouse grab the menus and you'll think I was trying to select something. It was just a mouse grab blooper, nothing else.

The point with the tutorial is, you can use this very template over and over again, change colors, brushes, etc. It's a lot easier than trying to insert images into transparent circles.

You can even bump map ALL the circles at the same time (if you wanted to). Fortunately now G'MIC allows us to create circle templates with relative ease.

I'll make it for you, and leave all the guidelines so you can see how I did it. How is that?

Just to let you know mahvin, you can post YouTube videos in here using the Image button. You can click the full screen button to see it (the You Tube button Image doesn't allow full screen).

By the way, that is an excellent video. Very nice job.

For a template at 1200 x 1800 px, requires that 1" circles (300px in diameter) be evenly spaced at 75 px horizontally between circles and 50px vertically between circles (this all being at 300 dpi).

If you set your dpi (dots per inch) at 72, a 1" circle will be 72px. Make sense?

Images print best with higher dpi, in case you didn't know that.

Vertical guides are set at 225px, 600px, 975px
Horizontal guides are set at 200px, 550px, 900px, 1250px, and 1600px

I left 3 individual paths for the top row so you can create your larger circles easier.

Enjoy the file! :)
