My 'coffee stain' isn't working. Was wondering if there was anything like it in GMIC or if someone can tell me how I can create the same effect?
Tried this on a small canvas. I tried to do 6 splotches but it stopped after doing one. I cancelled out and tried again and it wouldn't do anything then.
Just had the idea today that it might make for a good addition to a background.
EDIT: I just tried on a new canvas. Started but didn't complete

EDIT again: After further looking, I think 'shadow patch' in GMIC does similar. Not the same, but I did this with it

Mine here seems to finish, but the result looks a bit 'weird'.

Mine does the same as you nelo. When it it finished, I get this visible brown layers in between. Weird!

I get the same thing in gimp 2.10.8. The version I downloaded was from gimp.org.

It is similar to that vignette script. One of the functions (I think distress-selection) calls threshold-alpha. In Gimp 2.8 that was open ended but in Gimp 2.10 it has a maximum value (255) that gets exceeded.

Personally I think it is a hopeless case. Tweaked a few values but you still might get a big solid square, well - it is on its own layer, so delete it.

Attached to go in your C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\scripts folder and now registers in the Tools menu so it does not clash with the original coffee.scm Remember to unzip it

A thought to consider, make a few of these splodges and create an animated brush. Then paint with a dynamic.

I may download that when I have finished downloading gimp 2.10.8 again (did it twice already and both times The download did not complete) May stick to portable as I already have one on a stick, if it doesn't work this time.
My whole reason for downloading 2.10.8 was to see if it worked in that version and I see mackenzieh already answered that it doesn't

I've watched that script working. Many times.
Looks that the distress isn't working when the selection is too small.
Couldn't quite make it to find out how big it must be to work. I guess something between 20px to 25 px. Then ... if the selection is that small and the distress is very big ... it's not good either.
And then of course as Rich already mentioned there are maximum values, which weren't there in GIMP 2.8.

Tried to tweak the script and it 'mostly' works. Can do 10 runs with 10 stains ... and it works well, but can as well happen there are one or two layers that are not ok.
I can attach mine ... no guarantee it is fully ok.
Doesn't interfere with other versions, shows as 'Coffee Stain 210...' in Filters>Decor

The original coffee stain filter works fine if you add a temporary white layer over your image before you apply the filter. Then delete that white layer when finished. Somehow the colors in the image effect the script operation. Perhaps a script writer can edit the script to automate this?

Could be that I have never really had a use for them. Not into animations much either. Once they were all the rage but now I just couldn't be bothered. I like looking at what other people can do still.

Thanks rich2005, I now know how to properly make brushes for Gimp. I may make some that I find interesting in the near future.

The coffee stain script under tools gives me an error.
