is this where I ask? can I extract color values from an image in GIMP?

There is a forum in this site called 'Gimp Help' and it is probably best to ask there. You will also be prompted to put your OS and gimp version etc in with your question.

You can however find out the colour of different parts of a picture by using the colour picker in gimp and the colour picker dialogue will give you the values

Location: Native to NYC living in Arizona, Gimp 2.8 - 3.0, Win 11 PC.
There is a "Pointer Dialog" that will show you the color values,
as you hover the cursor/pointer over the image/canvas.

You can also add the Pointer dialog as a tab on the dock.
