making an image show in a template

Hi – Newbie here & could someone kindly offer help. I’m using GIMP 2.10.38 and an Ingram Spark template & successfully loaded a colored front cover image + spine & back cover text in black. The background color will be black. When I later successfully highlight & change the black text to white, it will not let me highlight the black UPC symbol & I lose sight of it when adding the black background color. By temporarily lowering the opacity below 100.0 I can see the UPC symbol in black so I know it is there but of course it will not show in the black ground when I raise the opacity up again to 100.0. How do I get the UPC symbol to show in white against the black background of 100.0 opacity? Thanks in advance.

Hello Eagle, welcome to Gimp Chat! Make a few more posts -(4 more)and you can post a picture - then we might beable to help you if you post your xcf.
Go to the introduce forum and introduce yourself and comment on a couple other posts etc and you can then post an image.

Hi there. Welcome to Gimp Chat.
Not sure what you mean by you cannot highlight the UPC symbol. Is it a Text layer? Or was it changed to a non Text layer? And is it on its own layer. That is to say is the UPC symbol the only item on that layer.

If The UPC symbol is a Text layer you should be able to select the layer and then the Text tool and change the color to white.
If it is no longer a Text layer but it is on its own layer you should be able to click the layer while holding down the Alt key (Windows) and the text will be selected. Then fill with white. Or right click and choose alpha to selection.Then fill with white.
Hope that helps. But as sallyanne stated an image would be helpful or the XCF work file itself.

I finally figured it out & it looks nice what with the black background, white text above it & the black UPC/barcode encased in a white box. I contacted the supplier of the template & they suggested I switch from MS Edge to Firefox or Chrome which didn't make any sense. I wasn't trying to upload anything at that time but feel comfortable to do it now.
