Hey. I just recently watched the tutorial in the link above on how to remove the background from hair. I did it successfully, but when I tried to save it, it would only save one or the other. I didn`t know this at the time, and once it was saved, and the next time I logged back in, it only had one layer saved. It would either show this: http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n53 ... irst-1.jpg or this: http://s1138.photobucket.com/albums/n53 ... pfirst.jpg . Can you tell me how to save both layers together in one file? Thanks.

Try saving it as a .png .jpg files don't usually allow alpha channel transparency or layer masks.

You can also save any gimp file as an .xcf to preserve the individual layers.

This is the same tute I did with the text. It is in the tutorial section viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2095

It looks like this is where you went wrong. Right after the white layer mask, do this

"Click on top layer > edit > cut, click on the layer mask > edit > paste.
A floating selection will be created in your layer dialog. Click on the anchor floating layer item below, so now you have created a layer mask".
Check image in tutorial and it will show you how that stop looks.

Then save as: name.png to desktop or wherever you want it.

good start clumsyhearts, Hair isn't the easiest thing to remove try but keep it up.....

Your image doesn't look bad.If you use a soft fuzzy brush tip with a 40% opacity you can go around the edges of your image and get rid of those stray pixels.

A good habit to get into is too remember once you have created your mask, and if your next step is to save the image,be sure and de-select the mask part or rectangle of the layer by clicking either another layer or the the left rectangle on the masked layer.You will know which rectangle is NOT selected by the darker lines around the rectangle like this...


Otherwise Gimp will tell you that you are about to save a layer mask as an image.And it will only save the layer the mask is on.This is actually what it sounded like happened to you so i thought i would add this in if anyone ever has a similar problem.

Looks like you got it fixed though so that is good news!

In the tute the directions were to cut the layer mask and paste it into the image, that way you end up with one layer to save. Anyway, it worked..
