GIMP crashes on loading (Solved...)

Have you tried Partha's build?

No Odin. I had it on XP. Is it stable.
I just discovered that gimp has crashed at 21% ram usage. Perplexed.

Partha's builds are considered very reliable. Are you 32 or 64 bit and sure you've installed Gimp in the proper folder? When you install Gimp are you doing a clean install? One thing to try first is reset all preferences, better yet remove both gimprc files, re-start.
Linux example.

Thank you Odin.
I am running gimp 32bit on 64bit windows8.1
I have manually removed all traces of gimp after an uninstall.
After reinstalling and updating the OS, Gimp was the first and only install to be run (unsuccessfully)
Gimp Painter 2.8.7 64bit runs fine but clashes a little with a few of the addons.
It's my belief there is a conflict with the OS or derivative of and GIMP. :-(

Just like to update :yes

Since re-installing FREE-RAM on windows 8.1, GIMP 2.8.10 has suffered just one crash and that was an outdated script.

SamJ's PORTABLE GIMP 2.8.15 has also suffered one crash in the same time frame and for the same reason. (a very fast and reliable build :bigthup

). This is my main GIMP version now - WELL DONE :hi5
