Yep, been there, done that a lot. There must be some knack to doing it I haven't found yet.

Still jagged, GFIG does not make straight angled line strokes. It can fill, but it can't stroke worth a damn.

Gfig Fill (works great), you're almost better off just using fill and then converting the fill selection to a path:

You can even use your image brushes, etc. They turn out great. Just not the simple stroke angled lines on any shape.
I see what you are saying mahvin. Yeah that sucks.

On the other hand, Script-Fu > Shape Paths works great and you have the path to work with.

bkh1914: I think I fooled myself into thinking that an animated brush was working because it had several layers working incrementally (sort of like applying a second, third coat of stroke, lol). I was wrong. It's the thickness and blur of the brush. The minimal size I was able to get to work is 13px. Any brush I made smaller than 13px would jag. The reason why larger image brushes appear to work so well is because of their thickness.

To get thinner lines using my own 13px brush, I reduce the thickness using value propagate. But like most everyone else has already said, using paths is far faster and easier, and less hassle.
