Problem with saving transparent .png

and here's what I get when I save it as a png

The file is fine. It is likely that the background is appearing as white because either 1) the background of the webpage is white or 2) the wix software is adding a white background.

How are you viewing the file?

so i guess that would be viewing it through the wix editor... but the thumbnail of the image also shows the white background on my desktop.

I just opened your xcf and it has a transparent back ground on what I see. It doesn't show any white or black, just checkerboard I exported it as photo.png and here is your transparent logo
My guess is because the website here has white background

Here is a screenshot of your logo

You can add a new layer at the very bottom and put whatever color, design, gradient you want behind your logo.
Here it is with a gradient bg added.

wow, what a dork, I guess I'm trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist... is it weird that the thumbnail of the png on my desktop has a white background though?

I don't know cuz I can't see the thumbnail you are talking about. Anyway, I think you know now what you didn't know before so go for it and make a beautiful bg for your logo.

ok it's working on wix now, too. sorry about that, I'm not sure what I did wrong on the first time I saved it, but I'm an idiot. Thank you all so much for your help- the open source community is world class. you guys are geniuses!!

You should be aware that if you copy-n-paste in Windows, you will lose your transparency. Windows doesn't easily* support transparency with its copy-n-paste buffers and (last time I checked) nobody has stepped forward to add GIMP support for the more complicated method Microsoft has available. (At least I think this is the situation. I don't use Windows very much.)
