Are you saying the images don't open? Or you can't click one image file, then holding down the Ctrl key, click the other file then click Open?

You will have 1 image with 11 layers if it worked. Your image files have 5 layers and 6 layers separately.

I think we are at cross purposes here....I am opening Gimp then selecting 'open as layers' the file that I want to open which opens the gif with all it layers...at this stage I don't have another file to open. When I have opened the gif with all its layers I can only select one layer at a time.

You attached mary-sig.gif and mary no sig.gif. I opened both of those files together and got 11 layers.

Had you already combined the two files?

You don't need to select more than one layer at a time when the image is open. Just click the "Mary" layer to have it the active layer to erase the text.

Oh I understand what you have done but not sure why I would want to open those together. I just attached those originally so I could explain that I could either create the text in the 'no sig' one again or change the sig in the 'sig' one.

I feel I am wasting your time now so will understand if you want to call it a day lol

I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you wanted both files in one file. Well all you have to do then is open mary sig.gif and follow the steps. Never mind open as layers, just File > Open > mary sig.gif

If the white edge is just around the text, you need to leave it there. That's what keeps the text from being jagged. That white edge doesn't show on a white background. If you have a different colored background, then you need to make the background color in the color selector the color of the background you will be putting your image in.

In this image, the semi-flattened text has a white edge around it but you can't see it against the white background in here.
