I downloaded today (my versions were older).
Mehdi Plugins
http://www.mehdiplugins.com/
Skipping 64bit (some are in both versions) - only 32bit work.

I thought you can only use 32-bit 8bf (photoshop filters) with PSPI because the PSPI plug-in is 32-bit.

This page has 5 compatible 64 bit filters: https://www.mehdiplugins.com/english/64bits.htm

Yes those 64-bit 8bf filters, work in a 64-bit host. PSPI is still 32-bit AFAIK.

Introduction
============

This is pspi, a GIMP plug-in that interfaces to Photoshop filter plug-ins.

First, the bad news: Pspi only works on systems that understand i386
Windows executables, more specifically, DLLs. (Photoshop plug-ins are
actually DLLs.) Pspi was developed on (i386) Windows......

The 32bit filters work.. not the 64 bit. If you have a 64 bit system the 64bit filters throw out errors in gimp.

Ah; you were referring to 64-bit plugins. As already mentioned, PSPI only works with 32-bit 8bfs. Not even sure 64-bit PS plugins will work with XNView. :)

I'd just use ShellOut.

The Sapphire plugins on this page: https://saturnelladesign.fr/pages/filtres.htm didn't work for me. I wanted to try those out. When I downloaded, unzipped, installed them on gimp, I got errors when trying to use them.

I said so 2 times already. You can't use 64-bit 8bf filters on a 64-bit system on a 64-bit Gimp because PSPI plug-in is the 8bf host, and it is 32-bit.
There's no difference how the filter works, unless the 64-bit Mehdi filters have been updated with new features.

Most of the 8bf filters are very old and useless. Redfield filters are pretty good, but all of them are not free.
