I hope I am not making you more puzzled. What Wallace said to do earlier would be the way to go. GMIC should install itself once you click on the downloaded file. You do not need to open any folder. It will/should automatically happen when you click on install.
As for the other 'Fourier transform' plugin. Download it into your downloads folder. Extract it into a folder of a similar name (in downloads) And then copy and paste the two files in that folder into your gimp plugins folder. You need both files because one is a dll and is probably needed to run it.


Actually if you are still having a problem with G'MIC download a gimp with G'MIC already with it. Unless someone else knows where you can get a better one I would go with Samj - Partha only has 64bit gimps.

It's all very curious to me.

I followed Wallace's directions and downloaded G'MIC.exe file C:\Downloads and then extracted them in C:\Downloads and they extracted.

I then downloaded the Fast Fourier Transform.exe file plugin into my
Gimp user plugins folder (and they appear in therr right now_ and extracted them with the install wizard. The extracted files and folder and all appear in my
Gimp user plugins folder.

I'm perplexed and not able to try any of the great suggestions others have shared because this G'MIC.exe file and Fast Fourier Transform.exe file plugin don't seem to be accessible.

What is your path to G'MIC?
Install path on Windows: (for global installation All Users)
or (for a local single-user install)
Another example, my Linux full path:
G'MIC is one menu item in GIMP. All G'MIC filters are accessed from within it's dialog.

That'll be very helpful for the future.

But, as you can see from the jpg Gmic or G'mic are not listed.

Maybe you can detect from the folders/sub-folders in Windows 7 which files are missing?

Could it be that I'm using Windows 7 and not Windows 10?

Or that I'm using Gimp for Windows 2.8.2 and this .exe file and plugin don't work with my version or need to be installed differently?

I moved the gmic.exe file I had originally saved into my C:\\Download folder which I then was instructed to move to my plug-ins folder back to my C:\\Download folder. I then l clicked it open and it went through the installation process.

I then clicked the fourier zip file to extract it. It said it was already extracted.

So, then as I deleted that .zip folder.

Everything seemed to be in that plugin folder at all times. It seems you're suggesting I move it around all within the plug in folder?

I downloaded the original file from the web site to that plug-ins folder and then extracted in the plug-ins folder and now deleted that .zip from the plug-ins folder.

Are there certain files I should now see in the plug-ins folder?

I've attached what I see as I still don't see gmic listed under filters nor fft.

Frist, thank you for all yoru help and patinces.

I do *not* have two 2 files in my C:\\users\gimp2.8.2\plugin folder.

I appreciate so much that you recorded that YouTube video but when I click on it the video appears extremely grainy and blurry so I can't see much except colors - I can't read any of the letters in the url or or in the pages visited or any text in it.

I've hit full screen to watch and that hasn't helped. I only have a 19 inch LCD screen.

Should or can I first uninstall any/all of these plugins/.exe files as I wondering if downloading and extracting all this has affected my Windows 7 registry in any deleterious way?

I found the url for the YouTube you kindly created and shared.

I visited that url and found the video and downloaded it to my hard drive.

When I play it in VLC Media Player, it’s all very grainy and blurry.

So, if you will, please closely examine the steps I’ve created below to ascertain it they correctly correspond with the steps incessancy for both the Gmic and Fournier downloads and installations?

Step 1: Go to: http://gmic.eu/gimp.shtml to download the proper G'mic script for Windows 32 bit

Step 2: Download the 32 bit file to C:\Downloads – do *not* move this download file into the plugin folder.

Step 3: Click on the gmic.exe (executable file) and it should install somewhere in C:\Users\gimp2.8.2\plugins (difficult to see so I’m doing this by sound of the video at approximately 1m44s)

Step 4: Once you’ve checked that the gmic.exe properly extracted to C:\Users\gimp2.8.2\plugins, then return to C:\Downloads and delete
the gmic.exe (executable file).

Step 5: Visit http://registry.gimp.org/node/19596 and download (name of file to be downloaded???

I’m sorry but I just can *not* see in the YouTube video the name of the ZIP file to download if you could please name the exact file name here?

Step 6: Download that ????ZIP file to C:\Users\my-name\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins.

Step 7: Once that ????Zip file is downloaded, click on it in Windows Explorer and it will extract the files into C:\Users\my-name\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins.

Step 8: check to verify that through the extraction process the FOLDER named ???? I’m sorry that I can *not* see it’s name in the video) is situated in C:\Users\my-name\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins. It’s a FOLDER I’m looking to verify is there, not a FILE – is that correct?

Step 9: Once that FOLDER is verified there in C:\Users\my-name\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins, then delete that ????Zip file/folder (regarding Fournier FFT), by opening that file/folder and highlight the 2 files in there (I can’t see their names) and then delete them both, correct?

Step 10: This is where it gets really confusing for me. I now have to visit my C:\Downloads folder and find the fourier ??? folder which I just downloaded and installed in C:\Users\my-name\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins but now find it/them in C:\Downloads folder also?

And once found in C:\Downloads folder, copy the 2 files in there (names???) and move them into the C:\Users\my-name\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins folder??? I don’t understand how they are not already in the plug-ins folder since they were downloaded there??

From the audio portion at 5m22s, I can detect there is some .dll file and 2 other files – names??? that should then all be seen in my C:\Users\my-name\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins folder.

Hi Pat 625 … Now that I have the G’Mic installed I can see by opening Repair that Ian’s Noise Reduction offers 12 different settings. I’ve been playing around with each of these 12 settings sliders. Have you found one has a better effect than another or do 2-3 settings work together better and which ones have you found work best together?

Also, I see I can choose Apply or OK at the bottom of that Ian’s Noise Reduction but is there an Export or Save function in that G’mic?

Never having used any of this I’m not sure how I save the photo as modified as a separate .png file from the photo I imported into Gimp to work on?

Hi Iarga… I found the Repairs Smooth you kindly shared. Each of those Smooth designations you shared has 3-5 sliders. I’ve played around with them and Gradient Smoothness seems to be working better than others. You shared that I should Combine them in layers – could you please share how one combines them all in layers?

Once that’s completed how do I save the result as a separate .png file?

Hi Wallace…You and I were in simpatico. I was worried about the registry so I did ran CCleaner Registry to check for issue and there were a bunch. I had it fix the issues.

As with any of the scripts in G'MIC you have to adjust your sliders for each individual image as each one will have a differing amount of noise or blur or whatever you are trying to correct. After trying several different scripts, most find a favorite or "go to" to start on the image. Sometimes will have to try another depending on the basic problem with the image.

When you hit ESC or OK when you are done with the image, it is put back into GIMP. There you name it, use SAVE or EXPORT as you would for any GIMP image. Remember to make the name a little different from the original so it can be kept for later use.

If you mean "save" the results to get your outcome, on G'mic filter you simply press OK.
Then you save your changed image with the Gimp export.
If you mean "save" the preset to use it again on other photos, remember that during the same Gimp session G'mic preserves your settings, so you can apply them to other photos with the same need.
You may also click on the "+" sign (centre, bottom, on G'mic filter screen) to add your preset to your fav's.

I looked under all the listings in the drop down menu under Filters as well as under G'mic but for some reason I'm missing it. Could you please share exactly where you're finding Brightness and Contrast?
