Needing to Enlarge

GIMP Version: 2.8.10
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: 7 Home Premium
GIMP Experience: Beginner Level

...without losing detail. Is this possible in Gimp? I have found resynthesizer smooths things too much. Or can someone point me to another program that does it

G'MIC -> Repair -> Upscale [scale2x] ?

I've used Smilla Enlarger (not a GIMP Plugin but it is Open Source) w/ some success Sallyanne.
