Hi, new user here.
I want to do something fairly simple, but it's just not happening.
I want to take one gif, and overlay another (some snow, for Christmas, of course), so they both play at once.
Here's what I have tried:
Opening gif A as layers, opening gif B as layers, manually moving them so they alternate in the layers dialogue box (so it runs background, background, frame 1, frame 1, etc), then merging down each frame to its matching one (i.e, frame 1b merging down to frame 1a).
I tried changing the mode of the snow gif to "overlay" which does... nothing? I tried a snow gif that claimed to be transparent and the snowflakes turned out black (??!). The "scale layer to image" command also didn't do anything, so the black snowflakes were only on one part of the gif.
For gif A, the timing is 200ms; for the black snowflakes it says it is 100ms, I can't see where to edit this to make them match unless changing the name in the attributes box will affect how it runs.
Am I at least on the right lines? If so, is there anyway to arrange, match the scales, and merge down the layers as a batch?
Thanks!
Of course you need to have the same number of frames in both animations, and they need to have the same timing. To achieve this you may have to make adjustments in at least one image (duplicating frames and dividing frame delay by two, for instance). Once this is done there are scripts to merge the layers (such as my own
interleave-layers).
