text to path goes wrong: waypoint in corner

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

After adding a path and some text,
i right-click on the text-layer
and choose 'text to path' (maybe different in English, i'm working with a Dutch version)

For some reason, the second path always have waypoints in the corner of the image. What's going wrong? How can i prevent this?

Your text may be a bit too large or cramped.
Try making the text just a little bit smaller, with a little more space in between and see how that work. You can alway make the text larger by scaling the paths to the size you need.

Text size is at 128.

Text size reduced to 105.

Your path that the text is following may be too small, or you text may be too big. If the path stretches out to the border, the text is too big for the path, or the path is too small for the text.

It can also be the size of the text box

and depending on character spacing either the text is truncated or the path flies off. ie, hitting a space at the end of the path.

I always have a problem with this plug-in. I even wrote a tute on it but sometimes it works without a hitch and other times it scrunches up or goes wild.

No problem.
Try and make those small changes with your text or the path and see how it goes.

Yes, it could have been the path you created, or it may have been that the text was too large for the path.
Either way... glad you posted this issue. :bigthup

I'm sure this has happened to many Gimpers and this thread my help to solve this issue for others in the future.

It might be a good idea if Gimp could issued some kind of warning for this, but I wouldn't have the slightest idea of how this might be implemented.
This may be something that can be explored, to better facilitate the usage of text along path issues in Gimp.
