I am going to be producing tshirts and am producing the images in GIMP. At the moment I am just putting text on the t's. I want to be able to make the text the image without a white, black or anything background. Thus when copy it on a tshirt via a tshirt shirt creator website, that the text is the only part. Please advise if this is possible.

thank you.

When you create text in Gimp. It's normally created on a layer which contains an alpha channel. Just size your text as you wish and save only the text layer as a png image.

If you save the text image as a jpg, you will lose the transparency. Png images will retain transparency. Also for printing, I would suggest you use a PPI/DPI at the minimum of 300 for your images and you also want a fairly large size image, something around 3000X3000, with space on the out side of your text as a bleed area.
You also might want to check out this tread link below. For some suggestions on the size and resolution of your image.

Here's a t-shirt svg file that can be opened in Gimp and scaled to any size.

Hi meyerson914,

Were you ever able to get your shirt made?

I suggest you create the text on transparent layer, but be sure to test the image on the same background color as the t-shirts you plan to print. Different color backgrounds might require color adjustments or changes to shadows for the text.
