New to GIMP: Question about resizing

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: New User

Hi all

I am new to GIMP and i wanted to know how to resize an image without effecting the subject? I want to enlarge or shrink the background or, enlarge or shrink the subject inside of an image without affecting quality too much. Is there a correct and efficient method to do this?

to enlarge the image as a whole, you can try: GMIC/Testing/Garagecoder/xbr2x
it doubles both the width and the height, with good quality

if you want to perform operations only on parts of the image, another interesting filter is:
GMIC/Deformations/Seam carve

To shrink an image or layer just go image/layer - scale

Try Liquid Rescale.
Download the gimp extension pack
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimpext ... p_redirect
and install ONLY the
plug-ins>Liquid Rescale plug-in. It will install fine into 32 or 64 bit Windows.

Restart GIMP. You will find it under Layers>Liquid Rescale.
