Problems entering text in GIMP

GIMP Version: 2.8.6
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: New User

I want to know is it OK to do the following:

I design little cards with recipes on them. I tried typing the info in text, but it gets deleted and / or wrong font, size, colour, etc. I found out that if I type the info in Google Docs, then copy it to GIMP, I can tell design it.

Is this how most people do text on GIMP? Thanks.

I use the text tool.
There is an editor associated with it that you can type into. Check 'Use editor' in tool options and this will open up.

I addition to what Sallyanne has described.
Most often to keep it simple, I just click on the text tool :text

and type out my text then change the font/font size form within the text tool options.

Kaaje: In the Gimp Help Forum there is a thread "re 2.8 text tool". A video is posted by Esper. It is a very good easy to understand tutorial on the Text Tool. It really helped me learn how to use the Text Tool. It is on page 1 of the thread. I would give you the direct link but I don't know how.

I found the same video in the Gimpchat tutorials. It is under Molly's name. Go to select forums at bottom of page and select tutorials. It will be much easier to find that way.
