Hello,

I am looking on Gimp for a way to reproduce the effect Scene - "Clarity" of Camera+ which is an app of my iPhone.

Here is an example of the result (To the right with this effect) :

This image has more than 10 layers and I do not want to apply this effect to all of them. Of course when I do it on Camera+ this apply on the entire image. This would require me to cut à recut the image once again.

On Gimp and on GMIC I did not find any similar filter.

Does any one have an idea ?

There use to be a python plugin called sigmoidal contrast, but it apparently don't work in my version of GIMP anymore (2.8.14; just checked). Sites down as well, but, thanks to the magic of the wayback machine, bellow's the site for details. Maybe someone here can fix the python plugin since apparently MM no longer supports it.

Attached the python plugin. Still, it will run (not crash) in GIMP but doesn't do anything. It use to add some pretty cool enhancements to an image when I used it back in the ol' 2.6x days.

OK; did some digging and found out why. I found the original zipped plugin and followed the directions. I attached it here. You have to remember, when ol' Betsy died on me, I didn't necessarily install all my GIMP plugins properly (or backed up all the relevant directories; lol). Just glad this plugin works again. Don't really need it since there's so many different ways to skin a cat, but it's still a pretty cool plugin.

Might as well add LabCurves too; since plugin and files are over 8MBytes, I'm hosting the file myself.

lylejk, I tried LabCurves which is available on your one drive public directory and I get the error that liblcms-1.dll is missing and yet I have put LabCurves on the folder C:\Tools\LabCurves.
I have the file liblcms2-2.dll but not liblcms-1.dll in C:\Tools\LabCurves

Any idea ?

unzip and place in the same folder you installed for Lab Curve

Westminster, simply using Gimp Retinex (default) without further improvements

But I did find any place where to download Retinex.

I have found a tutorial http://docs.gimp.org/en/plug-in-retinex.html but no download, this page looks like being the author page http://www-prima.inrialpes.fr/pelisson/MSRCR.php (french page), with only the source, no binaries to download.
And no Retinex or Gretinex binaries on the Gimp plugin Registry page http://registry.gimp.org/glossary

dinasset, are you on Windows ? If so, can you please share your Retinex plugin ?

Retinex is a standard Gimp plug-in and has been for a long time. You shouldn't need to install it.
It should appear in the Colours menu (right at the bottom of the list).

If it's not there, check in your Plug-in Browser (Windows > Plug-in Browser) and/or check whether the file is actually installed - if you're using 64-bit Windoze, it should be in C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\contrast-retinex.exe

Hadn't checked and your right about the missing dll; thanks for sharing that dinasset; works now.

I found my old copy and I have attached it here. I have also included Edge avoiding wavelets, in case your interested.

He stopped supporting the plugins because he incorporated them and others in his photo editing program Photivo. It is also old now, but works well the few times that I have used it. It is at http://photivo.org/
