32 bit programs

Hi, everyone. I finally got a new computer. It is a 64 bit with Windows 10. 16 GB RAM so I hope I won't get those annoying "unable to allocate memory" messages anymore.

My question: My old computer was 32 bit. Does 32 bit run on a 64? Do I need to find replacements for all my programs. Is it just the .py and .exe files or do I need to worry about the .scm also.

Sorry for all the questions but I never had to do this before!

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

32 bit programs will run fine on 64 bit.
And you don't have to worry .py and .scm files.

Congrats Pat! My old one will give me some bad complaint soon, I think. But I still want to keep it. :)

Don’t be afraid to start over. It’s a new chance to rebuild what you want.

You might possibly be able to move the old drive into your new computer and have all your files intact.
(not that all of your old programs would run, just so you have all your files).

Animicule: I've done that before when we had desk top computers. My current one and my new one are laptops. Much easier to use them when leaving home for several days or more.
Husband has been in hospitals many times since 2013. His computer kept him from going insane while there as TV choices are not good in hospitals. Mine also kept me from going more batty than I am as I spent most of my time with him. We probably won't get into desktops again for that reason. I have an external hard drive for backing up files. I should probably spend some time going through it and deleting old programs that are not useful anymore.

Slow but sure. I wanted to do an image copy for backup in case I need to redo the setup. My old computer was junked up with a lot of files and I don't want to put them on the new computer so I am doing some house cleaning on it before I copy too much from it.
