Select [Solved]

GIMP Version: 2.8.18
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: 10 Home 32bit
GIMP Experience: New User

My fuzzy select and colour select don't seem to be working all the time any more.
When they don't I check the image mode and it is on RGB. Is there something else I should check.

Has worked properly since I have had this version of gimp just doesn't work all the time?

It's hard to say what exactly might be going on,
when this occurs.
It would be really good,
if when this happens.
You save your work or take a screenshot of it for us to check out.

Checking the image mode,
is the first thing I would have done as well.
Off-hand I can't think of anything else that might cause this.

does it happen on a single layer image? (just to exclude "sample merged" option as the cause)

Could be your "Threshold" value in Tool Options also. If it's too low it won't select the entire area.
Not sure what you mean by they aren't working correctly.

Sometimes they just are not selecting anything at all.
If I hold my left mouse button down a 'line' forms around the area where there should be a selection but as soon as I let go it disappears.
Thinking it could be my mouse I have resorted to using my (lap top) touch pad and the same thing happens

@dinnaset it is only on one layer

Mouse problem? Batteries at end of life, or button contact that "bounces"?

Mouse is a USB plug in one and I think it is sticking (double clicks when I only click it once.
My touch pad shouldn't be doing that. I usually use it when I want things to happen more smoothly.

Now all of a sudden fuzzy select is working, but I had to try a few times first before it did.
Think I found out the reason why the colour select wasn't working - I had 'subtract from selection' :subsel

selected.

@Rod I just moved my threshold from 15. What should it be on?

Subtract from selection would probably do it. We will have to remember that one.
Exactly what it was. I just tried it myself.

You can set your threshold to anything you wish. If its a solid color it will not matter. Threshold is for selecting amount of color hue or difference.
