Hi everybody,

I'm having a 16 bit color greyscale image which I'd like to distort with GIMPs perspective tool.
Unfortunately GIMP reduces my images color depth to 256 colors (8 Bit) once the transformation is completed.

I'm already using version 2.9.5, which is technically able to handle up to 32 Bit color depth, but for some reason the perspective tool still reduces the color depth to 8 bit or 256 colors.

Is there an easy way around this? I do have some decent programming experience, so maybe I'm even able to slightly modify the source code if someone could point me in the right direction. Or maybe I'm missing something that's rather obvious here?

Gimp 2.9.5 should work. Using linux and updated Gimp 2.9.5 as of 4 days ago

A 16 bit grayscale opens as 16 bit, so no problem there.
Perspective transform and export as both 16 bit and then change mode to 8 bit, export again, gives correct results
but, not correct image information
Using the Gimp color tools. Color Cube shows (max) 256. I suspect that these functions still have to be updated.
