I'm curious on what's a FAST way to cut out pictures in GIMP? More specifically focal points in my drawings.
I'm going to be doing a big project soon and I want a faster way than the clicking a million times with the Lasso tool if possible...

In my opinion it totally depends on the image.

If you are lucky and have a uniformly colored background then the Fuzzy Select or Select By Color tool, might be good enough.
Ofnuts has a good method for this and there is a script he wrote that makes things easier.

For backgrounds with a bit of variation the layermask method can work. You convert your image into greyscale and then manipulate the colors so that you get a black/white image than can be used as a layermask.
In the manipulation process you use Levels, the Brush and maybe Dodging and Burning. Also a bit of blurring with a curve can help shifting the edge or make it less hard.
This method might work for images you painted on white paper and scanned.
A variation of this method uses a channel as a base for the layermask (you use whatever has the best contrast). Remember that there are other methods for decomposing an image into a channel other than RGB. HSL for example can be useful.

The best method in my opinion is the Path Tool. Its superior to the Lasso Tool because you can change it anytime. If you convert the selection from the path into a layermask, its also non destructive and can be perfected at any time.
But its not a quick method.

I find the G'MIC Extract Foreground not a very good tool. The same with Gimp's the Foreground Selection Tool or the Scissor Tool.
They all imitate the Quick Selection Tool of Photoshop, which is very very good for a quick job.

There are also clever methods for selecting tricky situations like whispy hair. Lots of tutorials on youtube. Mostly for Photoshop but easily converted to Gimp.
