Layer Via Copy Cut

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: New User

Hello friends,
I was trying to add Layer via Copy Cut Plugin to my GIMP.But was not successful in it.What could be the problem?.How to successfully add the plugin to my GIMP?.Can u help me pls?.

I downloaded Layer via Copy Cut from the above link. But the file extension is in .py but other files in Plugins directory are in .ui extension. Google about converting but was not successful. when i added the above file in my Plugins Directory in GIMP, it is not shown in Layers Menu.I closed the GIMP Application while adding.but finally i didnt get the desired result.Kindly help me pls.

.py is the correct format for a Gimp plug-in.
In Windows, it must go into a directory something like this:
C:\Users\YourName\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins\
Remember to re-start Gimp

You´re seriously doing something wrong, that plugin works perfectly. Does not even require altering executive rights, which is usually #1 pitfall with plugins.
There are no any .ui files in your username\.gimp\plugins folder, it is empty before you start adding any plugins.
My guess is you tried to place them in wrong location, Program Files\GIMP\share\gimp\2.0\ui\plug-ins files as that has 2 .ui files
Put all additional stuff in the correct user folders (good advice)

You may need to have GIMP create a new User Profile folder.

Repairing Your GIMP User Profile

GIMP Startup failures and other Gimp related issues.
Can be caused by User Profile problems and or corruption.
In this case it would be pointless to re-install GIMP,
since any re-installed version will re-use any existing profile.

It is usually much more efficient to just rename the profile to (.gimp-2.8.disabled or .gimp-2.8.old).
Restart GIMP and GIMP will recreate a new profile directory on startup,
which should fix most User Profile issues.

You can then copy your add-ons sub-directories to the new profile,
checking periodically that GIMP will still start with that modified profile and any added scripts and or plug-ins.

Hi Wallace,

I also have a problem with the later via cut/copy plugin. I've installed following the instructions (in this folder: C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins) and it seems to appear in my layer menu, but in cyrillic writing. Please see the first attachment for a screenshot

In addition everytime I try on of the options in cyrillic I get 2 errors. Please see the second attachment for a screenshot.

I've downloaded the cut/copy plugin from this website: slybug.deviantart ( I can't type the URL because my post looks somehow too spammy for a first user)

It's the first time I've been using GIMP so I might be doing something stupid, but I couldn't find this error somewhere else.

There are a number of reasons why this might be happening.

This could be an old plug-in,
which may not be compatible with you version on Gimp.

Also,
the best place to install newly added scripts,
plug-ins, brushes etc.
Would be to place them into your Gimp User folders,
not into the Gimp Program folders.

In my opinion,
there doesn't really seem to be a need to have this plug-in anyway.
Gimp can already do what this plug-in does,
without the need to install a plug-in.

I also find it a useful plugin. I have attached my copy which I have been using up to v2.9.5 Just unzip it to the folder that Wallace mentioned. Hopefully it will help.
